'Is This Structure Safe?': RLCraft Edition
If you've ever played the massive Minecraft modpack RLcraft, you might've stumbled upon a weird structure and wondered if its safe to go there, or even worth you time. After tons of independent research (aka I checked them out in Creative), this'll be a little guide about some of the structures you might encounter, their risk, and if they have any good loot. If people like this, I'll make more, idk.
Plains Camp: A small village with three tents, a firepit, hammock, and fenceposts. This structure usually spawns with a few villagers, and sometimes horses, and can be found in plains and savannah biomes usually.
Risk Level: 1 (Its very open air, with no doors, but there's no mob spawners, and is pretty peaceful.
Loot Level: 2 (The tents have chests, but the items inside are pretty basic. Farming stuff, bones, leather, etc.)
Hobbit Hole: Live it up like Bilbo (or Frodo) in this cozy yet spacious home! This makes an excellent base, but can be a bit camouflaged under other hills, so look for the torches littered around. It's usually found in lightly wooded areas. Original design by Onefairy38.
Risk Level: 2 (No mob spawners here, but take heed! The indoors are a bit dark, and can spawn mobs like Kobolds naturally. The interior is also made of a lot of wood, so be careful of fires.)
Loot Level: 6 (Holy cow, whoever lived here before left a lot of stuff! Food, ores, wood and stone, this place comes with tons of chests full of resources.)
The Palace of Aeriveth: A sprawling, enormous, Roman-style desert structure, with a little plaza area surrounded by towering walls. Certainly secure, but hard to get out of. This lovely palace was originally designed by Ethaerith. Risk Level: 3 (Despite the night-lights around the plaza, the usual nighttime mobs spawn here, so be careful!) Loot Level: 2 (Whoever built this place must've abandoned it a long time ago, and took all their stuff with them. The only look here is the gold and emerald blocks, which you'll have to break the pretty architecture to get.)
(Here's another picture of it)
Ancient Teleporter: A small, old-looking castle that contains several failed attempts at creating a portal. This place has a nice spooky atmosphere, but beware, there are some monsters still living in it...
Risk Level: 5 (As you may have guessed, there is an active Nether portal in this structure. Mobs like Zombie Pigmen and Lycanites demons can pass through, so if you plan on living here, best to put it out of commission. The interior is also quite dark, so bring torches.)
Loot Level: 1 (Beyond the blocks the place is made of (like wool and stone), there's not much to write home about here. At least it looks nice?)
(Here's a shot of the interior portal room. These failed portals contain command blocks, which allegedly used to let you teleport to other places, but it was disabled by the modpack creator, and Waystones are far easier.)
Asian Home: A lovely, large house that comes already decorated. Impress your friends (or enemies) with this stylish home! I wonder why it was so cheap...
Risk Level: 3 (Watch out for those open flames, they can spawn Cinders that'll torch this whole house!)
Loot Level: 1 (Hardly anything worth taking here, but without the flames, it could be a decent base.)
Crater: An amazing base to take, held above a mysterious crater. Make this your Angel Island, safe from surrounding enemies! Risk Level: 4 (This lovely place has a Nether-themed basement with lava and open flames, which can spawn hostile mobs. You can either replace them with Moglava, or get rid of it. Also bring torches, because some of this place is dark, especially the crater itself.)
Loot Level: 7/8 (Not only is this place an amazing base, it has a secret storage room (marked by a sign on a wall) that's absolutely STUFFED with chests. Like the Hobbit Hole, but with even more stuff, and some rarer items too. As well, the crater underneath the base itself usually exposes some ores.)
(Here's the first floor interior. Ooh-la-la~)
(Basement floor 1, decorated with three miniature biomes. Note the open flame in the nether area.) Original design by TaylorMcGregor.
Cathedral of Madness: A creepy church full of monsters! You'd be truly mad to try and live in here, though a large group of players could give it a renovation.
Risk Level: 6 (This is a HUGE structure, but poorly lit, so all sorts of creepy creatures spawn inside. The place is also littered with mob spawners (skeletons, evokers, etc), so unless you fancy yourself a Castlevania experience, maybe stay away.)
Loot Level: 5 (There are a few chests in this castle-like place that contain good loot, like enchanted books and armor, but they can all be found on the main floor. There are some iron blocks here and there that can be stolen as well.)
(They've come to worship, your honor.)
(Sorry for the potion swirlies, this place is truly dark as night.)
(View from the top. Look at me, Mom, I'm Spider-man!)
Cult Island: An innocent village, walled in by high stone brick walls... or is it?
Risk Level: 6 (The house with crops near it is a cult stronghold, full of pillagers and evokers. The woods aren't safe either, with some trees hiding zombie spawners. Hide in the windmill if you need safety, as that's where Aegis spawn.)
Loot Level: 5/6 (The cult house has the best loot, with some pretty good items. There's not much in the windmill, but there's a few villagers there, so you can trade with them.)
(Inside the cult house.)
(The windmill.)
Deqing: A nice looking, yet empty castle, that is surprisingly half-off!
Risk Level: 2 (The occasional skeleton, zombie or creeper might spawn here because of the darkness.)
Loot Level: 2 (Beyond the wool and coal making up the building, there's hardly anything here.)
(Inside.)
Desert Dungeon: A large desert structure that looks like a village, but has a few surprises inside.
Risk Level: 6 (Each tower has a skeleton spawner on top, so getting near the place is a bit risky. The inside of the big building has husk and spider spawners, and the husks can spawn with shields, armor, or weapons.)
Loot Level: 4 (There's a chest in the basement with some nice loot, but be careful: its rigged to drop lava when you open it! You can steal the redstone in the trap though, and mob spawners drop lots of EXP.)
(Inside the main building)
Desert Temple: A nice desert structure, with some little shops around it. Good for a base in the harsh desert.
Risk Level: 2 (No obvious threats, but since its open air, some annoying mobs can spawn nearby if you're not careful. Aegis spawn here as well, and protect the villagers.)
Loot Level: 5 (There's a few villagers here that you can trade with, and some of the shops have chests with loot.
More to come!!

Lore theories on strongholds? 👀
Here it is, my rundown on all the important aspects of structures in Minecraft, and an explanation of why when you go out looking for exciting activities in the exploration world, you probably won’t find them.
Some of these boxes are subjective, but the data is very much real. We don’t have enough structures that you can find whenever you want to explore, don’t expect diamond armour of the player, have good combat, and are overall worth the effort taken to get there. Structures should be about wonder and excitement and challenge, not about the journey it takes just to get there, or the fact that you’ll build a farm out of it.
The solution to exploration boredom is a couple of things that are standing right behind Mojang’s back.
Terrain outputs in the development of this mod seem pretty hectic right now. Here's something I did today for the sake of desert worlds.
at least today I found a badass mineshaft in Minecraft
It’s too dark to see, but I was following a narrow ravine and came to the center room of a mineshaft!
This is what the ceiling looks like! The ravine cuts right through the middle of it, and in the center there’s a waterfall.
Oh, and it’s EXACTLY at y=12, which is the deepest I’ve ever seen a mineshaft generate
This was the lowest tunnel I found, at y=4. Look at all that bedrock!
