Don't buy what you don't need.
I'm a part of the 'offline movement' the 'minimalist tech movement' or whatever else you want to call it. But some of ya'll need to stop buying pointless shit. Getting off your phone is a good idea, its a good thing. Getting a flip phone is an even better idea (no, I will not call it a 'dumb phone' actually fuck off with that crap) I have dream phone, I want a t-mobil sidekick 3. But those don't work anymore and even if they did they would be hard to get your hands on. So I have a more accessible dream phone, a Sunbeam Wireless F1 Pro Cypress. Horrible name. High price tag. Not pointless though and made by an actually cool and good and down to earth company. Not crazy tech overlords.
The movement has become obsessed with 'my analogue bag' and 'The new light phone III' and all I really want is to get that old slide out qwerty phone my cousin gave me when I was a kid working again. He took out the battery and handed me a hunk of plastic and seven year old me had stars in my eyes as I clicked away on the satisfying qwerty keyboard. Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to make it work in this day and age, even if I do find wherever it's disappeared off to.
We need to shut the fuck up with the consumerism. I asked for an iPod classic 5th gen for Christmas last year because I wanted to get into modding. If I need another mp3 player I'm getting the cheapest non apple made one I can get my grubby little hands on and only if I absolutely need to, I currently have the best of the best, my baby all customized and stuffed full of music sitting plugged into my speaker next to my bed.
People complain about not having enough analogue media (shut the fuck up that's not even what the word means) anyway, they say they don't have enough or it's too expensive and then only look at the cute trendy vintage stores or online. Go to that sketch pawn shop, go to the stand on the side of the highway selling rocks, I bet they have a couple CDs to sell or trade ya.
We are obsessive, capitalist creatures. but we don't need to be. If you have a working version of something, don't replace it. Please. You don't need that new fake gameboy simulator, you don't need another iPod, you don't need three different cameras. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, stop buying shit.
