As a space nerd, it's actually getting irritating seeing every artemis ii post immediately gain negative (and many times, misinformed) comments of miserable people within seconds of going up.
YES the country is a shitshow and the president sucks. YES there are more indirect carbon emissions. YES the mission has a few issues, but this is a major achievement for humanity and science as a whole.
Beautiful words from everyone who worked on the mission, children and future astronauts tuning in from class, and people globally commenting "godspeed from ____" all contribute to the collective spirit of humanity. I cannot stress enough how important it is to maintain a sense of wonder, curiosity, and most importantly hope for a brighter future in dark times. At least let others do that for more than 2 seconds!
I'm not saying ignore the problems, but it's not helping anyone to immediately shit all over anything remotely positive. If you want real change, it is imperative to hope. Even with all our problems, we have to hope.
