The Miser
Ben Zed
A miser once dreamed he had given away Some bread to a beggar he’d met in the day. He woke with a start and solemnly swore That as long as he lived he would slumber no more
Mr. Stingy.
Originally posted on June 10, 2015 I remember one of my narcissistic lovers. He was a textbook example of a malignant narcissist, and a mean one at that. Although he never became physically violent, I think he would have if I hadn’t ended that relationship. One of the strangest things about him was the way he gave me gifts. The guy had plenty of money–he had a trust fund and owned his apartment…

Quest for Perfection - Avarice
Avarice (bukhl) has been condemned by Allah and His Prophet (saw). In the Qur’an, Allah the Exalted has said:
And those are protected from the avarice in themselves, they are those who succeed. [59:9]
Let not those who withold what God has given them of His favours think that it is better for them. Nay, it is worse for them. That which they withheld will be hung around their necks on the Day of Arising [3:180]
The generous person is close to Allah, remote from His torment, and close to Him, like His companion whereas the miserly person doesn’t enter the Garden and his companion is Satan. The reality of generosity is that you give away whatever is in excess of your needs. Altruisim is greater for it is the highest degree in generosity. It is to give away money that you infact need.
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu): The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "Time will pass rapidly, good deeds will decrease, miserliness will be thrown (in the hearts of the people) afflictions will appear and there will be much 'Al-Harj." They said, "O Allah's Apostle! What is "Al-Harj?" He said, "Killing! Killing!"
Bukhari Vol. 9 : No. 183
Of what does not belong to you or your subjects you should, therefore, be a lavish giver, as were Cyrus, Caesar, and Alexander; for to be liberal with the property of others does not take away from your reputation, but adds to it. What injures you is to give away what is your own.
Machiavelli, The Prince (Dover Thrift Editions), 16. Of liberality and miserliness.
