SPN AU Bingo Round Two Masterlist.
“270, Orange Street, please.”
“You got it.” He hit the occupied button as you shut the door and settled into the back seat. Once you were good, he started his meter and pulled away from the large office building.
You were focused on the screen of your phone, honestly just playing a game to avoid the awkwardness of silent car rides with strangers. You hadn’t even looked up at the man once you got into his back seat, but you could occasionally feel his eyes on you when he glanced it in rear view mirror. One such moment, you sighed and shifted, focus deepening on matching the candies on your screen.
You were stopped at a light somewhere, when you heard someone yelling on the sidewalk. You looked out the window, and it looked like they were yelling at you, but you had no idea who they were and it wasn’t your name they called out, so you just ignored them and went back to your phone.
A moment later, the front door to the cab opened, and someone slipped in just as the light turned green and the cab started away. “Hey!” you gave the stranger an incredulous look. “What the-”
“Mish, didn’t you hear my calling you?”
“I’m working.” He snapped.
The stranger looked back, and your hands came up in a ‘what the hell’ motioned, but he just gave you an awkward smile before turning back to the driver. “Okay, but Misha, this is important. We’ve been trying to call, and-”
“Like I said,” he motioned behind him to you. “I’m working.”
“But we’ve got a gig!”
“What?”
“Yeah!” the stranger wore a huge grin, dimples showed on his cheeks. “A legit fucking gig.”
“When? Where?”
“If you would have answered your phone..” he frowned and shook his head. He was moving in the front seat, but you couldn’t see what he was doing.
“Fuck off, Jared, you’re here, just tell me!”
“Turn left, here.”
“Jared, I’m-”
“It’ll take two seconds. Come on. Right there.” You could hear him typing on a phone. "Where you heading?"
"Orange street."
"Yeah, so cut this way, it'll bypass a bunch of the lights on this street. Shave off two minutes. You might not like it, but she will."
"I'd like you to get out." You muttered to yourself, annoyed that your ride home was being interrupted.
He turned, and about a block down the street, he slowed at a stop sign, and the back door opened. "Hey, guys." The man got in next to you, forcing you to slide over with a grumble. "Who's this?" He gave you a confused look.
"I’m the person paying for this ride-"
"Oh, awesome. Thanks."
You stared at the man next to you, mouth agape and Misha glanced back at you both. "I'm working, Jensen. She's my fare."
"Why are you picking up people when we're-"
"He didn't." You snapped. "I was here first."
"Oh.." he looked to his friend in the front with a silent "yeesh" before turning to their previous conversation which prompted you to roll your eyes again. "So, did you tell him yet?"
"Getting there."
"We've got a gig!" Jensen bounced in his seat next to you.
"Yeah, I got that." Misha muttered, looking out as he drove, switching to the next lane for a turn. "Jolly green interrupting giant here hasn't told me-"
"I was getting there!"
"It's at The Bootleg."
"No shit!?" Misha glanced back, turning in his seat for a moment only for everyone to yell at him to keep his eyes on the road. "How!?"
"Rob's playing." Jared informed him, while his buddy next to you found himself focused on you again. "Demanded us as an opening act. If it goes good, we might be able to score a few more shows."
"Nice! Oh, coming up on Orange."
"Hey." An elbow nudged you, and you looked at the man next to you. "You like rock music?"
"Maybe."
The smile that spread over his lips easily drew your attention. "Wanna come to the show? I play a mean guitar."
"We're here." The cab stopped, and Misha stopped the meter.
You licked your lips as you focused on pulling out cash and hanging it forward. "Keep the change."
"So, what do you say, sweetheart?"
"I'll think about it."
"How about I pick you up." He continued to smile at you as you froze half way out of the cab and looked back at him. "Saturday, 'round 6. Drinks when I get off stage."
"Jesus Christ, Jensen." Jared rolled his eyes. "Only you could pick up a girl in Misha's cab."
"I didn't say yes." He just continued to smile at you and you sighed. "What time do you go on?"
"9." Jared answered from the front seat while you slipped out of the car, finally.
"I'll be there at 8."
Jensen's smile widened. "I'll make sure you're on the list, sweetheart. What's your name?"
"Y/n Y/l/n. You better have a drink waiting for me too."
"Anything you want. Just name it."
"Surprise me." You shut the door and started up towards your place.
"I just might.." Jensen licked his lips and watched you enter your building.

Merry Christmas! I rarely write fics anymore, so I figured I’d save this one for Christmas. It is inspired by a video that @the-unconquered-queen sent me a few month ago of Ramin Karimloo singing “If I Can’t Love Her” and it had total Diavolos vibes. Diavolos and Kenna are my orig)al Hcoices ship and wiring them felt like coming home and I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.
If I Can’t Love Her
By Misha
Disclaimer- Not mine.
Pairing- Diavolos/Kenna
Rating- R
Summary- Diavolos had never been a man who thought much about love, but if anyone could change that, it was her.
Diavolos wandered the castle grounds restlessly.
The witch was dead. The Iron Kingdom defeated, the foe he had been fighting his entire life was vanquished and he had no idea what came next. He had spent his whole life training to be a weapon, planning on fighting his family’s enemy until his last breath, never allowing any thought for any other future. Never longing for more.
At least until now
Until her.
Kenna. The woman who had defeated the enemy that had plagued him his entire life. Kenna, the woman who had awoken a heart he thought was dead. “I don’t think I know what love looks like.” He had told her that night in the airship when she had asked him about his future, about love.
He had meant it sincerely. But now… Now he wondered if he did know what love looked like. If love was a warrior queen with warm brown eyes and a sparkling wit. If he was capable of love, if he could love anyone, it would be her.
Diavolos closed his eyes, remembering the previous night, the way she had melted into his arms, the way she had felt beneath him. He had never felt like that before. He had slid inside her and felt like he had come home for the first time in his life. Like he finally knew where he belonged, that he could have new purpose in life: loving her.
But… Was that possible or was it just a foolish dream?
Diavolos opened his eyes, taking in the countryside of Stormholt, the castle his father had once conquered and still coveted. His fists clenched at the thought of his father. As long as his father lived, happiness with Kenna would only be a dream.
Azalea was dead, but Luther lived. Diavolos knew his father, knew his ambitions. He knew that his father would not go peacefully into the night and that he would take one last stand against Kenna. Diavolos knew it as well as he knew his name.
His father would try to kill Kenna.
The woman Diavolos loved.
Or the woman, he could love, if he was capable of such an emotion. If he had been a different man, raised in a different way, then he could have loved her. But as it stood, he was a Nevrakis, and all he had ever known was loyalty to his father. And that loyalty was plaguing him now, because deep down he knew he would have to choose between his loyalty to his father and his feelings for Kenna,
Which was stronger?
Did he love this woman enough to abandon his whole life? Could he even love her? Was there any point?
Diavolos but back a groan, remembering how weak Kenna had been after the battle, how he had wanted to go to her, but the thought of his father, and her friends, had stopped him. The memory of their night together had made him step in her direction, but the reality of all that stood between them had stopped him.
She was everything. Everything he had never thought he wanted, everything he had never dared dreamed of. If he could love, if he could imagine a future, it would be with her. But tonight as he stared at the starless sky, it seemed a fruitless dream
If he could ever love, Kenna Rys would be the woman he loved, but even now, even haunted by the memory of her in his loves, it seemed impossible Because loves belonged to other men. Men with other destinies.
All he had ever known was war and loyalty to his father. The war was over, but the loyalty to his father hung over his head like a sword of Damocles. As long as Luther Nevrakis lived, he would never be happy. Diavlos knew that. But he didn’t know how to change that.
Could he abandon his father? Could he choose his happiness over the loyalty that had defined him? Was love enough?
As he stared into the night, he didn’t have the answer, but he knew one way or another the morning would bring an answer. He would have to choose between all he’d ever known or an unknown future. Did he love her? Could he love her?
Author’s Notes- I don’t really write TRR fic anymore but this one is a quick little birthday fic for my friend @lizzybeth1986. This is set in my Drake/Amelia universe, which ignore TRR. It is a Hana and Amelia friendship fic.
Rating- PG-13
Pairing- Drake/MC, slight Hana/Kiara
Summary- When Drake has to go away on Cordonian business, Amelia assures him she will be fine, but their daughter has other plans.
“I can send someone else.”
I didn’t even bother looking up from where I was folding clothes. “Drake, we have been waiting for over ten years to track down the last of the Sons of the Earth, you need to do this.”
My husband groaned and run his fingers through his hair. “Grant…”
This time I did look up. “Drake, I am not due for three more weeks and both the boys were ten days late. You will be Drakovia for two days at most and you will have access to a private plane, flown by the Cordonian Air Force.” I grinned. “I am just sad I can’t go with you.”
I had tried to argue my case, but I had been shot down by Drake, Liam and Olivia. Who in addition to being my husband and two of my best friends were also the head of Corodian security and the King and Queen. So, no out-of-country trips hunting down extremists for me. The downsides of being almost 37 weeks pregnant.
“Hana and Kiara are coming to help with the boys,” I continued, “and you know Hana, she won’t let me tire myself out, packing this suitcase is likely the last lifting I will do for the next three days.”
“You promise to call me if you need me?” Drake asked, stepping closer to the bed.
I moved away from the suitcase into his arms. “I promise. Now, help me close this suitcase so you can get on a plane and end a terrible chapter of our life once and for all and then you can come back and our baby girl can be born into a world where no one shoots at us or tries to kill us.”
**
“You know I promised to make you take it easy,” Hana teased the next day as she brought me a glass of lemonade.
I looked up from where I was kneeling in the garden. “I am gardening, not chasing down armed assassins, Hana.”
“Which is a good thing,” she reminded me, then she smiled knowingly, “how badly do you you wish you were in Drakovia right now?”
“So badly,” I sighed, leaning back and taking a sip of the lemonade, “I tried to plead my case, but no one was having it.”
“Shocking,” Hana said and I could hear the laughter in her voice, “you just have to accept that you can’t always be the Hero of Corodnia.”
I rolled my eyes. “I hate that nickname.” I stood up, something that took more effor than I wanted to admit, and then promptly doubled over.
“Amelia!” Hana rushed to my side and wrapped her arm around me, “are you ok?”
Before I could answer, I felt wetness on my legs, and I knew Hana felt it too.
I looked up at her, panic in my eyes, “Hana, my water just broke.”
She took a deep breath. “I am going to help you to the chair and then I am going to go get Kiara and we’ll call for help. You’ve got this.”
I nodded, though inwardly I did not feel even remotely calm. I was having a baby while my husband was in a foreign country on a very sensitive diplomatic mission.
“You really have been causing chaos from day one,” I murmured rubbing my stomach as Hana helped me into a lawn chair.
“Like mother, like daughter,” she said, squeezing my hand, “you got this, Amelia, and I’m here.”
I smiled up at her. “I know.”
**
“I tried calling Drake, but he is not answering,” Kiara told me once I was settled in my bed, “neither are Liam or Olivia.”
I fought back a curse. Why had I initiated Drake go? Oh yeah, because it was the right thing to do and if I couldn’t be the one to bring in those bastards, I’d wanted Drake to do it.
“We’ll keep calling,” Hana assured me, fluffing my pillow, “your midwife will be here in 5 minutes. I also was able to get a hold of your parents and they are taking the next flight out of New York.”
“Did my mother yell a lot?”
“A bit,” Hana confirmed with a smile, “and she said a few very rude things in Italian and then apologized once she remembered I could understand what she was saying.”
I laughed. “Sounds like my mother.” I took a deep breath. “The boys?”
“The nanny is watching them,” Kiara answered, “but I am going to go relieve her soon. Bertrand and Savannah are on on their way here to take the kids. They are also going to take the twins and Rose.”
“They are going to watch 7 kids, did someone slip Bertrand something?”
“Maxwell is going to help,” Hana aid and then grinned, “although, that just means they will have 8 children to look after.”
I giggled. “I think I’d rather be in labor.” Just then I got hit by another contraction and winced. “Or maybe not.”
“You got this,” Hana assured me, “you’ve done this twice before.”
“And never planned on doing it again,” I reminded her and then regretted it. This baby might not have been planned but she was a miracle. “I wish Drake was here, he is easier to yell at.”
“Yelling at Hana is like yelling at a kitten isn’t it?” Kiara asked, giving her wife a quick kiss on the cheek, “I am going to go help with the children and I will keep trying to call Drake.”
“Tell him I am ripping his balls off myself,” I called out.
“I will not,” Kiara replied, but I could hear the smile in her voice as she left the room.
**
“Good news or bad news?” My midwife asked me after she finished checking me.
I glared at her, “not a question you ask a woman in labor!”
It had been maybe 40 minutes since my water had broken and the contractions had gone from ‘ouch’ to ‘oh god, kill me now’ very quickly.
“Everything looks good, you and baby are both doing great,” Ana assured me, “but your husband will not make it in time because you are fully dilated.”
“What??? It took me 17 hours to have Jax and 13 with Will,” I reminded her, “how can I be ready to have this baby now?!” I practically shouted that last word as another contraction hit me.
“Every baby is different,” Ana reminded me, “I know you didn’t plan to hav ea. baby today, but your daughter had different plans. I am going to need you to get ready to push.”
“I am here,” Hana assured me, grabbing my hand.
I smiled weakly. “I know, you always are, I love you, Hana.”
“I love too,” she told me, “my first friend, my best friend, my sister. You’ve got this, Amelia, and I’ve got you.”
Just then the door of my bedroom flew open and Kiara ran in, holding her phone. “Grant! Grant, what is happening?” I could hear my husband’s voice on the other end.
“We’re having a baby,” I told him as I took the phone from Kiara, looking into Drake’s worried face, “like right now.”
Drake cursed. “Shit. I can head back, I should be there—“
“She means right now, Drake,” Hana interrupted, taking the phone, “Amelia is getting ready to push. Just stick with us,”
She handed the phone back to Kiara and took my hand again as Ana instructed me to push. I could hear Drake offering encouragement and I focused on that and Hana’s hand and after a few minutes, I heard the beautiful sound.
“A healthy girl,” Ana announced, placing her on my stomach,
I smiled down at my daughter. “She’s here, Drake, our daughter.”
“I love you both so much,” he told me, “I will be there as soon as I can.”
“I know.” After the call finished and Kiara had excused herself again to go make more calls, I looked up at Hana, “thank you for being here for me.”
“There is nowhere else I’d rather be,” she assured me, smiling at both me and the baby.
“Antonella, meet your Aunt Hana,” I said softly, “the best and most loyal friend anyone can ever have. I know that you are going to be so lucky to have her in your life, just like I have been.”
I am mostly accepting that TNA 2 won't let us romance Robin and I have decided I might have to take matters into my own hands. So here is a teaser of a Robin x MC AU I have been toying with. It starts mid-book 2 and devolves from canon.
Burn It All Down (Robin x MC)
"She has you in her phone as 'downn to fuck'," Ana said acidly.
Robin smirked. "Oh sweet Anna, I am always down to fuck, but that doesn't just apply to Sofia, the offer is open to you. All you have to do is say the word."
Anna ignored the thrill of heat, (how could he be so gross and so hot all at once?), and continued. "My point is I doubt that whatever charms you have are going to be enough to get her to cancel the engagement and Sam doesn't care." That still rankled, how genuinely delighted Sam had been. It had also been the eye-opener Anna needed. "So your plan to upend the marriage and end up with Dalton Enterprises isn't going to work."
"Are we having lunch so you can tell me my evil plot won't work?" Robin asked with obvious amusement, taking a lazy sip of his drink.
Anna paused. Was she really going to do this? She remembered the humiliation she had felt last night and this morning, of how eager Sofia and Sam were to have her be the compliant other woman, fitting tidily into their arranged marriage, and resolve set in. Yeah, she was going to do this. "No, I invited you to lunch to suggest a better one."
Author’s Notes- Happy Platinum weekend! So, I have always wanted to write a Raleigh proposal fic and never got around to it, but I got inspired by @platinumweekend and The Vinyl Awards Challenge. This is set a year after the events of the book. Special thanks to @raleighcarrera for calming me down when I had a little panic attack about this fic and hated every word.
Pairing- M!Raleigh x MC (Annie Marshall)
Rating- PG-13
Summary- Annie is apprehensive about returning to the Vinyl’s but Raleigh has a surprise up his sleeve that will take her breath away.
Words- 1460
“Nervous?” Raleigh asked as he helped Annie into the limo.
“A little,” she admitted, smoothing the skirt of her dress, “I mean after last year...” She trailed off, wincing at the memory of crashing Jaylen’s performance. Luckily her reputation had been repaired and her career was back on track, but she had a feeling a lot of eyes would be on her tonight.
“What about you?” She asked, changing the subject. “How are you feeling about tonight?” To her surprise, Raleigh had agreed to another Sunset Skatepark reunion, this one live at the Vinyls.
He shrugged, “good.”
Annie was about to push, concerned about the short answer, but Raleigh reached for then and pulled her into a deep kiss and all other thoughts flew from her head.
It was several minutes before they pulled away, both a little out of breath. Annie spared a thought to her hair, hoping it hadn’t fared too badly.
“Was that your way of telling me that you don’t want to talk about tonight?” Annie asked, curling into his side.
“No, it’s my way of saying you are gorgeous and I can’t keep my hands off you,” Raleigh told her, nuzzling her neck. Just then the limo came to a halt and he groaned.
“Hold that thought,” Annie told him, quickly checking her hair and makeup. Thankfully she didn’t look too bad and well if she looked like she had just been making out with Raleigh Carrera, was that really a bad thing?
As soon as the driver opened the door, Raleigh hopped out and held out a hand to her. “Are you ready?”
Annie took a deep breath. “As ready as I’ll ever be. After all tonight has to be better than last year, right?”
“I think we can make sure of that,” Raleigh promised cryptically, pulling her towards the red carpet before she could ask what he meant. She pushed the question as side as she put on her best press face and mentally prepared for the questions that were about to come.
She could do this. She could survive the night. At least she hoped so.
As if he could read her thoughts, Raleigh squeezed her hand and mouthed “you got this” and she felt her confidence return as she plastered a brilliant smile and answered a pointed question.
She had this. She could do it. And most importantly, Raleigh would be right there with her.
**
Despite her initial tension, the night seemed to fly by and then it was time for Sunset Skatepark to perform. Raleigh got up and motioned to her to join him backstage.
Annie was a little confused, but figured that he might need the support, perhaps suddenly questioning his decision to perform with his old band. To her surprise, Avery also got up with them.
“Didn’t want to watch the show?” Annie asked when Raleigh had left to get ready to go on stage.
“I can watch from here,” he pointed out, “I thought I would keep you company.”
There was something he wasn’t saying, but Annie figured that he might just be offering her moral support. Or maybe after last year no one trusted her back
stage alone. That was an unpleasant thought and she pushed it aside.
Avery was just being friendly, that was all.
She was distracted from further questions of her friend’s motives by the sight of Raleigh on stage with his old band mates. The trio began a mash-up of their hit songs, leading into a performance of “Be My Eternity”. As Raleigh and Cameron began the opening, Blair suddenly addressed the crowd. “We have a special guest joining us for this part, the one and only Annie Marshall!”
Annie froze, this was not the plan. She felt a hand on her back pushing her towards the stage. Avery.
“Go,” he whispered, giving her another push, and she suddenly realized he was in on what was going on, whatever that was.
She took a deep breath and then walked on stage, a smile plastered on her face as she made her way to Raleigh’s side.
He didn’t answer, but he took her hands as he continued to sing, now singing to her instead of the crowd. “You’re a shooting star, every time I gaze at you, I make the same wish, and every time you make it true.”
Even though they were on a stage in front of thousands of people, with millions more watching at home, it felt like they were completely alone. There was a familiar warmth in Raleigh’s eyes as he sang to her that made it hard for her to be angry about the surprise. He obviously had his reasons and she trusted him.
“I’m here now on one knee,” he crooned, suddenly dropping to one knee in front of her, one hand still holding hers while the other reached into his pocket. Annie’s heart raced at the gesture. He wasn’t— “asking you to be my eternity.”
Blair and Camon continued to sing as Raleigh held out a giant diamond. “Annie Marshall, will you marry me?”
Annie couldn’t believe that this was real. She was being proposed to on stage at the Vinyls, with millions of people watching. It was so crazy and over the top and she wasn’t sure what Raleigh was even thinking or how he had pulled it off. But that didn’t matter now, what mattered was her answer.
“Yes!!!”
The crowd was cheering as Raleigh stood up and pulled her into a deep kiss, but she was barely aware. All that mattered was Raleigh.
**
“I can’t believe you did that!” Annie exclaimed when she and Raleigh finally had a chance to be alone. It had been a whirlwind night and it seemed like the entire music industry had wanted to personally congratulate them. “What if I had said no?”
“Well, according to Fiona, I’d be humiliated and you’d be vilified and it would be a public relations disaster,” Raleigh told her, not sounding overly concerned, “she had a lot to say about it, actually.”
Annie could believe that. “So Fiona was in on it?”
Raleigh shot her a look, “I know I do a lot of stupid things, Annie, but even I know better than to drop that kind of surprise on Fiona. Plus I don’t think I would have been able to pull it off without her, she got me the ok from the people in charge, I don’t think they dared say no to her.”
Valid. And it answered her question as to just how Raleigh had pulled the proposal off.
“She told me that it would either be the best or worst publicity move of my career,” Raleigh continued.
Annie froze, “is that what it was? A publicity stunt?” After all she and Raleigh had started as a fake PR relationship, so maybe it wasn’t impossible. But they had come so far since then and the idea that it wasn’t real...
Raleigh looked stunned. “What? No!” He pulled her into his arm, pressing her against his chest. “Babe, that proposal was 100% genuine.” He gazed down at her, meeting her eyes, so she could see the sincerity in his. “I was going to do something private and low key, but... That’s not us. Our engagement was always going to be news and this way, I controlled the story and how they got it.” He hesitated. “I guess I also wanted to give you a new memory to associate with the Vinyls, for other people to associate with you.”
Oh. Annie gazed up at him in shock as the meaning of his words hit her. “Because tonight is what people will remember,” she realized, “not my ruining Jaylen’s performance.” Raleigh had not only declared his love for her in front of the whole world, he had also found a way to give her the kind of Vinyl’s memory she had always dreamed of.
Thanks to him, she wasn’t the unhinged pop star who had ruined her rival’s big night, now she was one half of one of the hottest couples in music, the recipient of a truly epic proposal.
“I love you,” she told him, wrapping her arms around his neck, “and I am so glad I get to be your eternity.”
Soulmates January: Master of Our Own Fate (M!Blaine x F!MC)
Master of Our Own Fate
By Misha
Disclaimer- Not Mine.
Author’s Notes- This is the second of my 31 soulmate AUs for January. This one was not a request, it was me trying out a new pairing: Blaine x MC. This is a soulmate twist on the first two chapters of Foreign Affairs and is also letting me play with the dynamic and their personalities. I love them already.
Pairing- Male!Blaine x Female!MC (Kennedy Monroe)
Rating- PG-13
Summary- Kennedy has always done what was expected of her and ignoring her soulmark is just one of those things. Until she meets Blaine Hayes and suddenly questions everything she has ever known.
Words- 1350
“Kennedy, one more thing,” Winston pauses, turning back to her, as he imparts his final piece of ‘advice’.
“Yes?” She forces herself to keep her voice light, reminding herself that Winston is just doing his job.
“Your mother wants to remind you to wear, ahem, appropriate clothing at all times,” Winston says, his gaze falling behind her. Kennedy knows exactly what he is referring to. Her soul mark. The one her mother has ordered her to never show to anyone. Kennedy still remembers her mother’s horror when the mark appeared. “Those are Ardonian colors.”
Of course, the idea of Kennedy having an Ardonian soulmate would never do, so her mother preferred to pretend the mark didn’t exist and wanted to make sure the rest of the world never found out, never once asking Kennedy how she felt about it.
Kennedy doesn’t know, has never thought about it, because in the end, she is well aware her opinion doesn’t matter. Which is why she simply assures Winston that she has no intention of doing anything that will bring embarrassment to her mother or Rutherland.
And she does mean those words. Because that is who she is. She is the good girl. The perfect first daughter. She does what is expected and would never court scandal. Besides, it’s unlikely she would meet her soulmate at Vancross, so what is the harm in keeping her mark private?
Then she meets Blaine Hayes and feels the kind of instant attraction that she thought only existed in movies. She loses herself in his kiss and feels fireworks. And soulmates are the last thing on her mind until Dionne tells her that Blaine is the first Son of Ardona.
She is angry at him for not telling her. Angry at herself for giving into temptation. But mostly she can’t stop thinking about the mark on her back. It’s not in a place she can easily see and she has never gone through the effort. It has been years since she has let herself think about it and she actually has no memory of what letter is represented there, it was all washed out by her mother’s horror over the colors.
Of course, it’s not a B. There’s no way. Blaine is not her soulmate.
She won’t let herself look. Can’t let herself look. Because, she doesn’t know what she wants to see, or not see. If it’s a B... Well, that would complicate everything in ways that makes her wince to think about, but if it’s not... Well, that thought brings a sharp pain that she definitely isn’t ready to investigate. So, no, she’s not going to look.
But the idea eats at her enough that when Dionne hands her the outfit for the party, a midriff bearing number that Kennedy’s mother would not approve of, one that is one wrong move away from exposing her secret to the world, she wears it.
After she is dressed, before she and Dionne leave for the party, she drops something on purpose, bending over in a way that causes her outfit to shift and her Mark to be exposed. As she straightens, she sees Dionne’s eyes widen.
“Kennedy, your mark—“
“Is In Ardonian colors, I know,” Kennedy interrupts, she can see from Dionne’s shocked expression that there is more to it and she forces herself to voice the question that has haunted her for weeks, “but I actually don’t know the letter, can you tell me what it is?”
Dionne look around the empty dorm, then steps closer to Kennedy, her voice low, “Kennedy, it’s a B!”
Dionne’s expression says it all. The other girl is obviously convinced that the initial is significant. “You and Blai—“
“We don’t know that!” Kennedy says quickly, cutting her off, “you know, we should get going. We don’t want to miss all the fun.”
Dionne nods, obviously accepting that Kennedy is not ready to talk about the revelation, or potential revelation. “Of course.” She hesitates. “Kennedy, it’s going to be a big party, I mean I know I suggested the outfit, but maybe you should wear something else?”
“No,” Kennedy says firmly, “I like this one.”
She knows it’s a stupid risk to take. Dionne’s right, there will be a lot of people at the party. Blaine will be at the party. And once that skeleton is out of the closet, there will be no putting it back. And she’s not sure she’s ready to deal with the fallout. But some stubborn part of her won’t back down. She needs to know. And not just because the memory of Blaine’s lips on hers has been haunting her since the day they met.
Maybe it’s because his words have been haunting her just as much.
“Suddenly, you meet someone who says screw all that, and deep down, you wish you could do the same instead of always being exactly the girl that mommy wants.”
She wanted him to be wrong. Wanted to prove to herself that he was. That she wasn’t just the good little girl who always did what her mother told her too. And this, this was a step towards that.
She takes another step later that night, while playing tower pong with Blaine, Dionne and Peter. She drops a ball on purpose and bends to pick it up. She hears Dionne’s intake of breath, but ignores it. There is only one reaction she cares about and as she straightens, she can see Blaine has gone still, his eyes fixed on her. For once, his characteristic smirk is absent.
Kennedy’s heart flips in her chest. His reaction is... significant. But it’s not an answer. Not really. But she can get one,
She makes the final shot and wins their bet. As Blaine strips outs of his clothes, he pivots, clearly giving her a good look at his back. This time, Kennedy’s gasp echoes Dionne’s. There is no mistaking the Rutherland colors or the ‘K’ in the middle of the mark.
Kennedy doesn’t know how to process it. At first, she doesn’t have too. Blaine’s smirk is back in place when he returns from fulfilling his end of the bargain and then challenges her to a rematch, “if you dare” and then disappears into the party.
Kennedy’s not stupid, he’s daring her not to follow through on a lot more than a rematch. The question is, will she? It goes against everything she has been taught, every instinct she has. Her mother will lose it if she even suggests that Blaine Hayes might, possibly be her soulmate. It is an international incident waiting to happen. She knows that.
She should walk away. Nothing good can come out of following up on this and yet... He is her soulmate. He is the person the universe picked. And while she’s always rolled her eyes at the idea of that, of fate choosing someone for her and just the idea of soulmates in general, she’s not laughing now. Not with the way he makes her feel, the way she’s started questioning her whole world since meeting him.
Blaine is everything she has always been afraid to be. Everything she has been taught not to want. And the idea of pursuing him, of even acknowledging that their might be something there, scares her more than anything else in her entire life. And yet, she finds herself walking up to him and tapping him on the shoulder.
He turns to her, that trademark cocky grin on his face, but the intensity of his gaze is at odds with the ease of his smile. “Up for that rematch, Rutherland?”

Summary- The golden girl and the bad boy were a match bound to end in disaster, but even knowing that, Noah can’t resist her.
Jessica Price is the kind of girl that Noah knows he can never have. It only takes one look at her to know that.
She’s a golden girl. The kind that never gets in trouble, who everyone loves, and she is meant to be with a golden boy. And that will never be Noah. Maybe once, back before everything, he once might have thought he could have been the kind of boy that a girl like Jess would go for, but... He knows better.
Or he should know better and yet... He can’t help hoping. Maybe it is the way she thanks him for rescuing her or her sweet offer of a tour. Or how she is the first person in forever to check and make sure he is ok. Whatever the reason, he finds himself drawn to her and wanting the impossible.
And it is impossible. He’s not stupid, he sees the way she looks at Mason. He remembers her comment about how the boy she likes was dating her best friend and it doesn’t take a genius to know she means Mason. It should make him back off, because Mason Jennings is exactly the kind of boy who girls like Jess end up with. Yeah, he’s dating her best friend, but Noah’s not sure how that long will last because he saw the way Mason gazed up at Jess after he got hurt.
Noah would put money on the fact that Mason is just into Jess as she is into him and that means he, Noah, should stay far away because a girl like Jess is never going to choose him over Mason. No one would choose him over Mason (a fact he knows all too well).
He tries to remind himself of that when Jess throws her arms around him in the parking lot, after all it is obviously as much about Mason (who looks like he is ready to punch Noah, which is fine, let him try, Noah would enjoy throwing a punch of his own back at him) as it is about him, but it is so hard. When she is so close and she smiles up at him and he can’t resist taking the chance and asking her out.
Maybe the two of them getting busted should have been a sign that it wasn’t meant to be, but Jess doesn’t blame him, doesn’t turn on him or agree with the secretary’s assessment of him. Instead, for the first time in forever, it feels like there is someone who looks at him and sees more than a troublemaker and if he had any chance of resisting her, it disappears when she steals his knife back for him.
So he asks her out and gets a teasing “maybe” that he is pretty sure will be a yes and then... A no, because she has a cheerleading exhibit. Because of course she does. And she invites him, but Noah knows he can’t go. He doesn’t fit into her perfect golden world and if he showed up to something like that, they’d both realize it and he wants to keep the illusion a little longer.
Besides, maybe it’s for the best. Maybe he should take this as a sign and accept that Jess will never be the girl for him. He almost convinces himself of that and then she texts back.
hey, are you still down with going to that gig?
He reads the message, not wanting to read too much into it, even as he responds instantly.
depends, are you?
Her response is instant.
yeah, I changed my mind. pick me up in 30?
Noah can’t fight the smile that crosses his face as he reads her message. He doesn’t know what changed, why she is blowing off her exhibit, but he doesn’t care. The golden girl chose him, if only for this one night.
with pleasure. see you soon.
Maybe it will only be one night, or maybe it will be something more. He doesn’t know, but he does know it’s been a long time since he’s been this happy or hopefully and it’s all because of Jess. Because she’s the first person in a long time to look at him and see more than the troublemaker, because she smiles and makes him feel things he’d never felt before.
Maybe it won’t go anywhere. Maybe the golden girl and the bad boy are a story meant to end in disaster, but... He doesn’t care. After all, his life has been one disaster after another, what’s one more? Besides that’s a worry for another time, because tonight he has a date with the golden girl and he’s going to make the most of it.
