A/N: I wrote this right when I began to write for the first time. After a bit of editing, I decided it was ready to be uploaded. As I’m setting up the queue for this week (soon, I’ll be using the queue all the time, uploading something between 7-8 AM Eastern.), I’m mainly using older work, so please forgive the fall in my writing ability.
“S-sir, you want-wanted to see me?” you stuttered, clasping your hands behind your back and stepping into the clean, polished office.
“Yes, yes,” General Hux said nonchalantly, waving his hand for you to sit. He never once looked up from his work. When you were sat, he finally set the datapad aside.
“I have noticed that you have never, according to the systems, made a single mistake.”
You blushed a little. “I-I suppose I haven't, sir.”.
“You have a perfect record, and you seem to be friendly with all of your coworkers.”
You shrugged and made no reply. What was this meeting about?
“I have thought it over, and I will be promoting you to Lieutenant,” Hux said after a silence, leaning back in his chair. Your face lit up.
“You will be working alongside Lieutenant Mitaka, he will show you what to do for the first few days. I expect your work will be impeccable as always?”
You nodded. “Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.”
Working with Lieutenant Mitaka and General Hux along with other high-ranking officers was an honor. Though General Hux and, when he was aboard, Commander Ren were strict, you were thankful every minute for the opportunity. Mitaka was helpful, kind, and friendly, and you quickly became friends. It seemed like every minute you weren't working was spent with him, though you stayed after your shift to get ahead.
“Still working, Y/L/N?” a voice asked a slight tone of amusement to it. You turned around to see Hux.
“Ye-yes, sir, I wanted a h-head start,” you choked out, turning red at the way you spoke to him.
After a moment he flashed a rare, small smile. “Keep up the good work, Y/N.”
Sometimes it seemed as if he favored you, the way he spoke kindly and invited you to meals with him. You had come to enjoy his company, he was witty and intelligent. You knew from Mitaka he rarely acted like this, and you were honored.
One day, you were called to his office.
“Y/L/N,” he greeted, setting aside his datapad instantly. You smiled.
“General,” you replied, taking a seat.
“I-” he paused, and shook his head. “I can't hold up the formalities, Y/N. I have come to enjoy your company over the past few months, and I find myself- having feelings for you, beyond friendship.”
“Sir-” you began, but he cut you off.
“I called you here to ask you on a date.”
You hesitated, thinking, his icy blue eyes cutting into you patiently. “I accept.”
The date was a casual dinner in his quarters. He expressed that while he would have rather sprung for a formal date at a restaurant, you were both forced to put your duties for the Order first. The date was a success, and for months after that, you continued to date.
Then something changed. He began to seem.. depressed. All the time, he would slouch and wipe invisible tears from his eyes. He would shrink away from your touch and lie to your face.
“Is this... is this because of me?” you whimpered one day. “Do you... want to split up?”
He shook his head but didn't meet your eye. “No, Y/L/N. You are a great partner.”
Then, things changed again. He seemed almost giddy. You wondered if it was because they had caught some Resistance scum, a Jedi girl who trained with Kylo Ren as a child. This was big for the Order. Hux took you on fancy dinners but increased your workload. You found yourself skipping breakfast in the morning. Hux would pamper you but seemed to ignore you at the same time.
Everything was solved a year after you began to date Hux. You had a light workload and opted to surprise your boyfriend in the cantina. You spotted him at a table with Ren and.. a new girl. Her hair was in the regulation bun, but she did not wear a uniform.
You sat beside Hux with a smile. He turned to you with an annoyed expression, until he caught sight of your face. His eyes opened wide.
“Hux,” you replied with a small laugh. “Commander Ren.” you greeted, turning to Kylo. Finally, you looked at the girl.
“Hi, I'm Lieutenant Y/L/N,” you greeted.
She nodded and introduced herself.
“I'm sure you heard loads about me from Hux, here, we are dating, after all,” she said casually, taking a bite of her lunch. Hux practically spat out his food as you tilted your head.
“Pardon me, I don't think I quite heard you.” you laughed. “I thought you said you were dating!”
“We are?” the girl replied, making it a question. Hux grabbed you by the arm and dragged you out.
“LISTEN TO ME!” Hux shouted, locking the door of an empty room behind you.
“How long?” you demanded.
He hesitated. “A month or so. We have been dating, and-”
“So it wasn't an affair,” you breathed. “You love her, more than you love me.”
“DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME THAT!” you roared, digging your finger into his chest. “You stay away from me!”
“Y/N!” he exclaimed, throwing up his hands in annoyance.
“Listen to me, General,” you spat. “You will not speak to me, go anywhere near me. You will leave me alone. I hope you have fun with your girlfriend, sir.”
He recoiled. “YOU WILL NOT SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY!”
But you were gone. Tears falling from your eyes, you ran to your room and slammed the door. You broke into sobs as a knock sounded on the door.
“Lieutenant Y/N?” Mitaka's voice called.
“It's unlocked,” you choked out.
He came in, and, upon spotting you, wrapped his arms around you. “What happened? Who did this?”
“T-the General,” you sobbed. “He- he cheated on me. He's engaged.”
Mitaka comforted you throughout the night and for weeks after. You became a shy, introverted nervous wreck again, losing all the confidence Hux had given you. After speaking with the General while giving reports you would cry for hours on end. You eventually dated Mitaka, eventually got engaged, finally got married.
It was a long ride. At first, you were distant, and it hurt Mitaka. It hurt him to see you like this. It angered him especially when he saw Hux. As for you, although you were dating, you couldn't seem to love him. He was patient with you, he never forced you to do anything for him.
As you looked into the eyes of your best friend, who was soon to be your husband, you thought one thing.
I will never be satisfied.
You smiled softly. “I do.”
