Magia Record came out in the late 2010s (both the game and the anime), but is canonically set during one of the alternate timelines of the original Madoka Magica series, which premiered in 2011. Assuming Madoka Magica actually occurred in 2011, that would mean Magia Record is set around that time, as well.

Of course, the aesthetic for both Mitakihara and Kamihama is fairly futuristic, so there’s no real indication that that is the case. If anything, the time period is ambiguous enough that even if time passes, no significant changes are shown, and nothing in-story says either series has to occur specifically at a certain year. And the few historical characters that are shown to be Magical Girls (Joan of Arc) are so far into the past one can’t exactly gauge the present-day events by taking them into account.

Okay, seriously, can we just talk about the architecture in Mitakihara?

This is a public school and they have several million dollars worth of CURVED GLASS PLANE/SOLAR PANNEL COMBO ON A FUCKING PUBLIC SCHOOL. A SCHOOL. WHO THE FUCK IS IN THE CITY PLANNING DEPARTMENT AND WHY DO THEY STILL HAVE A JOB?

The people living here are seriously the 1% of the 1%’s 1%.

Does Mami really not have any relatives at all? If she does, then why aren't any of them concern about her living alone? Japan's child services must really suck.

Considering she is mixed race, it wouldn’t surprise me if the rest of her family is overseas and that’s why she has a hard time reaching to them.

That or yes, Mitakihara’s Child Services SUUCK, the only place they work really well is in Kazamino.

So there you go people, Kazamino is the nicest and most idealistic place in the Madoka Universe.
