What is really egregious about that Kadji Amin passage is something which, I think, a lot of trans people are still reluctant in practice to take seriously: that we can have no stricter standard for someone being the gender they say they are than that... they say so. This is true irrespective of the "flavour" of trans—and some people, like him, wish that it were not so, that there is a meritorious trans with a slovenly trans as its foil.
