as a white passing person I need ppl to understand that the only person who can actually say whether they're white passing is the person who is passing. whether or not someone passes can't be determined by how one or two or 3000 people see someone because different people perceive race differently. For example, I pass a lot of the time. However, people who spend more time around people with ethnic features often clock me as a poc straight away. Similarly, there are a lot of racist white people who know I'm Other because of my way of speaking and my ethnic features and my name even if they can't be sure what my ethnicity is. This is how I know I pass because i carry the sum of my experiences and can judge they are the experiences of a poc who CAN pass. That's why white passing poc will often continue to use that label even if individuals think we don't pass, because that's only that person saying that and the thing about being a wppoc that no one really understands is that u r perceived differently by everyone u meet because everyone u meet has different experiences with race. So please stop using white passing as a label u as a single individual can assign to someone, u can't. It's not up to you. also while I'm here, stop telling wppoc to just say they're white. I can't speak for all wppoc but i carry racialised trauma that a white person literally would not have and will not align myself with people who have abused and murdered me and my family because u wish to adhere to a racial binary that was never intended to acknowledge mixed people. yes, u can reblog this.
