Dear Herbalists, please share your favorite uses for Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca)! I learned from Susan Weed that the Greeks used it for anxious mothers (hence the common name), and that it is also good for the heart (hence the species name) and the plant looks like a lion's tail (hence the genus). Here we see the seed stalk of a mother Motherwort, who is perhaps experiencing empty nest syndrome, as most seeds have already fallen to the ground below, leaving hollow seed pods like a pillar of hungry baby birds. This plant is from Southeastern Europe and Central Asia, and is an important herbal medicine in both Eastern and Western traditions.
