(Because I’m pretty sure Atlus said we can still get that tho I currently theorize that it’s actually the non-goro version of the new ending).
I don’t know for sure, but after their fight in Shido’s Palace, Ren’s lying awake in bed and thinking about Akechi (as you do when you’re very bi and pining). He thinks about the promise they made for a rematch, and wonders if they’ll ever meet again. Your options are either to forget, or to choose to keep the promise.
If I had to bet anything, I think you can get the original ending if you choose to forget–which means idiots and antis who don’t like Akechi are just going to miss out on the entire point of the game, and that makes me very happy.
