Right, second try. Hey Nick, quick question for you. Have you read Deadman Wonderland? If so, what do you think of it? If not, I'm going to recommend it, the artwork is pretty, the plot is complex but it cleans up nicely and it's completed. do you accept Tsubasa MMV recommendations?

I haven’t read Deadman Wonderland! My only exposure to it is through this cover, and I don’t know much about it beyond that. It sounds wonderful from what you describe though! I’ll keep an eye out for it, but I probably won’t get the chance to read it for quite a while. I have a very long reading list that I’ll need to make a major dent in first. 

Also, in regards to Tsubasa MMVs, the answer is probably not. While I adore them completely, I’d need someone to go through and check them all for spoilers first, and even then if they’re on Youtube then there’s no way to predict what might pop up in the recommended videos on the side. So, not right now, but I’m dying to watch them all one day.

The three main kind of AMVs

AMVs can be divided into 3 different kinds:

AMVs that the creator/s made their own story/plot with very specific scene selection.

AMVs that the creator/s chose a very specific aesthetic for the video

Simple AMVs that adapt the aesthetics of the anime to the song and create a unified entity.

The third one is the most usual one, but that doesn’t mean that it does not require the same effort.  Besides those three, there are also:

AMVs that have a trailer/cinematic aesthetic,

MMVs (manga music videos) which can contain even original fan made animation,

The ones that tend to look like an anime opening from the different sync to the song.

In YouTube there used to be a genre called ASMV which mean Anime Story Music videos (“loosecontroii” was the one that created the term). The name and genre was not supported by the community because there were always AMVs with stories and ASMVs don't actually have a plot, but rather just voiceovers with the intention to move people. Today the term supported by the community for this kind of videos is "Trailer".
