Starting this Spring, you can convert any parking lot at your next event into a skateboard park through the Prince George’s Parks & Recreation Skate Mobile!!!

Planning for a new regional community center in the Southern Area of Prince George’s County is well underway. This facility, currently referred to as the Southern Area Aquatic and Recreation Complex, will include indoor aquatic space, a gymnasium, a fitness room and flexible programmable space. It will be constructed on property owned by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) – Brandywine Area Park – located just north of the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Brandywine Road.

The Southern Area Aquatic and Recreation Complex will be a multi-generational facility, as envisioned in the Adopted Formula 2040 Functional Master Plan for Parks, Recreation and Open Space. Multi-generational facilities provide an array of programs, simultaneously, to serve the recreation and leisure needs and interests of an entire family - not just one age group.

Shaymar Higgs and Justin Porter, who were also instrumental in petitioning and designing the Cosca Regional Skateboard Park was also selected to be on the Advisory Committee of the forthcoming Southern Area Aquatic & Recreation Center!

The first official Beginners Skateboarding Camp at the Cosca Regional Skateboard Park of Clinton, Maryland!

After 4 1/2 years of hard work and dedication, we are onto growing and strengthening the community of skateboarding. Classes are facilitated by the Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission and led by Shaymar Higgs, Mia Charles, and Rahmell Green. It was an amazing experience and we have definitely gained 12 new skaters for life!

Much more to come for the Spring 2015 semester!!!!!
