The farm wasn’t far from the city she was staying in. Not close enough for it to be viable for her to commute daily, but on weekends... on weekends it would be fine. She would have to balance her school and homework schedule carefully to make sure she didn’t need the weekends for too much school work, but that was something she would have to do with any job. And this would be something she loved!... More importantly, it would be something familiar.
That sense of familiarity had long since vanished from her life, no matter how often she had been told that she would just ‘get used’ to living so far from home.
The bus stop was about a quarter of a mile from the farm house. It wasn’t that bad of a walk and gave Malon plenty of time to look around and take in the scenery. As she got closer, an intense wave of homesickness started to curl in her gut with such force that she couldn’t help but pause, giving herself a few moments to let it pass.
This was fine. This would be fine.
Stepping up to the front door, she fidgeted a moment before reaching out to knock. Once, twice--
Ah don’t even know if anyone’s home.
