Ruby is traumatized by the events at Beacon so in an attempt to (in her eyes) fix everything she goes out killing people in an attempt to free them form fear and death by Grimm. She feels that killing people first will e better for them instead of them being killed by mindless beast.Once word gets to Qrow he sets out to find her and thats where things kick off.

Ruby was never… “okay” since the fall of Beacon. She had been more jumpy, twitchy, and quite frankly, paranoid. While she was supposed to be resting up at home with Yang, she was actually sneaking out at night, wandering through the nearby woods to try and clear her mind. She’d deal with whatever Grimm was out there, taking her anger out on whatever creature of darkness may be lurking in the shadows. One night, as she was walking, she heard footsteps behind her, getting closer. She waited until it was at a scythe’s length behind her to surprise attack it, grabbing Crescent Rose, folding it out, and turning to slash at whatever was behind her. Except something was off. Instead of seeing a big, black beast dissolving into a familiar inky black smoke, she saw a man with a deep gash in his throat fall to his knees, then onto the ground below, blood pouring out around him. She was panicked, of course, but strangely, the panic wore off rather quickly. She had just killed a man, yet she felt no remorse. ’Better by hands of a human than claws of a beast.’ she thought to herself, simply justifying her actions. That’s when it dawned on her. Countless numbers of people, including her friends and family, have died by the hands of Grimm. She and many others are training to fight them, but they just keep coming endlessly. Can they really stop the Grimm, or can they merely right them back and build walls to protect themselves? The idea began to ring in her mind that, maybe instead of trying to fight the Grimm in a never ending war, she can simply stop the humans from existing. No one can be hurt by a Grimm if no one is alive, right?Ruby quickly headed back to her home to grab a shovel and bury the man before returning for the night, washing the blood off of her shoes and Crescent Rose and getting back into her bed to sleep. Come nightfall tomorrow, the human race will receive a scourge will descend upon the land and put forth a righteous plan to end all human life so that it may not suffer at the hands of mindless beasts.
It had been months since the incident. Ruby had become a lot quieter since then, keeping to herself mostly. Everyone just figured it was trauma, and though Tai tried to help get her back to her cheery ways, but it was no use. She’d sneak out at night and lay waste to Patch, murdering several people in one night, burying them where no one will find them, cleaning off her scythe, and returning home to sleep. It became a habit to her, just another thing she’d do at night. It was almost like a coping mechanism. She’d take her anger and pain out on everyone around her so she wouldn’t have to feel it.She was doing just fine until Yang decided to speak up. Ruby crawled back in through her window, her clothes dampened with sweat and a few splashes of blood. But her room wasn’t empty, Yang was sitting in the chair next to her bed, awaiting her sister’s return. She questioned Ruby as to where she had been, why she’s been disappearing at night, and why she has so much blood on her. Ruby gave flimsy responses, but Yang wasn’t satisfied. She could tell when her sister was up to something, so she wasn’t about to let it go. The more Ruby tried to explain, the less believable her story became. Eventually Yang had to stand up and demand to know the truth. Backed into a corner, all Ruby could think to do was apologize. Apologize as she swung her scythe from the left at her sister’s neck. Yang brought her arms up to block, but she still wasn’t used to not having her right arm and Ember Celica on. Ruby’s blade, that has been sharpened specifically o cut through skin, muscle, and bone, cut straight through her sister’s neck. Her head hit the floor with a thud, and blood poured from her neck like a fountain. Her body hit the floor next, crumpled up and beginning to go cold. Ruby couldn’t stay here anymore. She hastily packed her things and left, never to return home. In the morning, when Yang’s body was discovered, Taiyang had officially lost it. Yang’s lifeless body had coated the floors in her blood, now dried to the dark red of a dying rose. He called Qrow, barely able to make words through his sobs, but Qrow heard “Yang” and “dead” and didn’t need any other info. He arrived on the scene and felt sick to his stomach. He’s used to feeling sick from drinking, but this was something else. Dread crept up his stomach as he asked where Ruby was. Tai didn’t know, and after a full house search turned up empty, they deduced that Ruby was either kidnapped, or.. She was the murderer. They both wanted to believe the first one, but Qrow had seen how dead Ruby had become over the past few months. Her sterling silver eyes filled with a hope for humanity had become a dull gray, washed over with a level of apathy he hadn’t seen since he looked in the mirror. He knew something was up with her, so he decided to track her down himself.
A few more months have passed, and Ruby’s body count is sky rocketing. The police are so dumbfounded as to why they can’t catch this rampant serial killer. They think they’ve found a lead, but it just runs cold. When they released a report mentioning rose pedals at the scene of the crime, Qrow’s suspicions were confirmed. He knew Ruby was doing this, but he just couldn’t figure out why.Until the night he did find her. She was standing over the body she had just dropped, the smell of blood thick in the air. Her clothes were drenched, but they weren’t her normal clothes. Just a tank top and pair of jogging pants. She couldn’t afford to get her normal outfit messy, so buying throwaways was her best option. Qrow knew he had to act fast, so he flew in, transforming into human form just as he landed. Ruby was startled, immediately drawing her weapon. Now that Qrow was close, he could see just how much Ruby had changed. She was thinner than she already was, her hair had grown longer and become a bit unruly, she had dark bags under her eyes, and she just looked so… scared. Qrow tried talking to her. Asking her what she was doing, why, where she had been. But she didn’t answer. She readied her scythe, expecting to fight. He didn’t want to fight though, he just wanted to talk. But it became apparent that she’s not willing to say anything. She lunges at him, scythe aimed to kill, but he manages to block her and push her away with his his own scythe. They fight and bat at each other, swinging their weapons and shooting, Qrow aiming to incapacitate, Ruby aiming to kill. They both got closer, and with a burst of strength, there was blood and a single scythe slash, but just who killed who?
