I realise now that Will is likely a reflection of Josh. More the smugness (I wish I could link to that scene in The West Wing) that’s not off putting (at least to viewers). :)
And that exchange between Will and Rebecca about Neal’s case? After doing the ‘Screen To Script’ exercise on the scene...I have a hunch that Will and Rebecca faced each other in court previously.

INT. ACN OFFICES (CONFERENCE ROOM) - DAY
WILL and NEAL are sitting next to each other. NEAL is wearing a suit while WILL is dressed casually (sweater and khakis). WILL is scrutinising NEAL.
WILL
Are you nervous?
NEAL
No.
NEAL's body language is far from it: sitting up straight, leaning forward, and hands folded in front of him.
WILL
Really?
NEAL
I'm okay.
WILL
I'd be nervous.
NEAL
I'm fine.
WILL
Here she comes. Don't be nervous.
NEAL
I'm not.
REBECCA enters.
REBECCA
I would love it if you guys would stop committing federal crimes.
She puts her handbag on one of the chairs.
WILL
Listen, we're a team here. We're a family. But just to be clear, he's the one who did it.
REBECCA
Before we start, Neal. It's very important that you don't reveal your source to me.
NEAL
Yeah. No, I won't.
REBECCA

REBECCA digs through her bag and takes out her phone.

WILL rolls his eyes while NEAL cracks a smile.
REBECCA

WILL shakes it off. There'll be another opportunity to get another jab in.
REBECCA
Because this is different than prosecuting an escort service in Greenpoint.
She gives WILL a pointed look. Knight to King 3.
WILL
I put away bad guys, Halliday. I locked up Mafia Dons.
REBECCA
And now when you go to work, you put on makeup, just like me.
She smiles. Relishing the moment a bit too much, just because she didn't throw the first punch. Queen to Rook 5.
WILL looks over at NEAL.
WILL
Say you want another lawyer.
NEAL
If it's gonna be like this, I'd honestly prefer to go to jail.
