Hey there! Saw your posts about Charles and as a Latina/Apache mix I thought I could offer my view. Growing up, we were definitely more enveloped in our Hispanic culture and did more Latin-based traditions. I’d even say I call myself Hispanic before Apache. That being said, we were still taught bits of our Native dude too: told traditional stories, learned songs, hung more native art at home, learned the meaning behind names. That’s how I see Charles. Maybe with his father joining his (1/2)
Mother’s tribe. I see it as he grew up in a tribe, learned more of their ways and held on to them growing up. His father might not have done much, or it could’ve just been more of a side note. And by the time his mother was taken, his father was drinking so there wouldn’t be any opportunity there. Again, coming from a different combo of races, this is only my theory. And a lot of it is based off of personal experience (2/2) ~~~~~~~~~ OK, so this makes for a good explanation for Charles’ potential cultural viewpoint in a less negative/traumatic way than I had maybe supposed, and I really like that. (Though I’d still love to find a way to understand the game’s overall myopia towards his African-American heritage.) Thank you for writing in and offering this perspective, I so appreciate your taking the time. <3
