the revelation (hehe revelation) that lucifer CANNOT harm sinners makes everything make more sense.

its why he's so reclusive and depressed (in addition to the lilith leaving him stuff). its why he was so dismissive of charlie's dream at first. it's why he leaves the pride ring to be ran by overlords as opposed to the other sins ruling their own rings and spends eternity making ducks.

in the eyes of heaven, he went against them, got lilith to side with him, and got adam and eve to eat the apple/forbidden fruit, giving humanity free will but also giving them disease, death, pain and sin.

so heaven banished him to hell, forcing him to deal with the worst consequence of giving humanity free will. and their immortal, unlike the hellborns, and have to be killed in s special way.

a way only heaven has acess.

its why he let heaven and the exorcists do the exterminations. he knew damn well it wasn't about population control; he knew it was just heaven wanting a form of entertainment and he gave it to them on the condition the hellborns weren't affected.
