Feyre's and Azriel's thoughts ( plus the IC)
Saw a post that essentially said that Azriel didn't have to do anything involving the illyrians and shouldn't be expected to be involved with them (this was basically anti-gwynriel rant) because they abused him. In the same post, the poster also said that feyre can ignore all of spring court citizens because they were complicit in her abuse.
This post shows exactly how most some in the fandom think the IC could do no wrong think. I'll try to avoid using today age's moral reasoning cause I have a lot to say.
Azriel is an Illyrian, a subspecies of Fae in pyrinthia and an important one. He's the highlord's spymaster and a nobleman by rank. Azriel wasn't abuse by the entirety of illyrians, he faced the cruelty of those who made him train at 8 years old, was beaten up by Illyrian children while his hands were still healing from being burnt by his family but he wasn't tortured by the entire Illyrian race. For him to hate all of them is just prejudiced/biased.
What's more, he is a part of the inner circle. His voice matters, for him to not want change or ignore them means he shouldn't have a say on illyrians despite being one. It also means he's a failure as someone in power because instead of trying to push change so others won't suffer like him, he chose to believe that every Illyrian is a brute like the rest of the IC despite Emerie, lord devlon and Balthazar being good. This shows how assumptions and prejudice can hinder change.
Then the defense of Feyre's actions. The people of spring loved her and when she returned after utm, all of them didn't allow her to do any house work because she was still healing and they felt gratitude towards her. The people of spring knew she was resurrected but aside from Tamlin, Lucien and Ianthe, none of them knew how suffocating she felt in spring.
The average spring citizen didn't know she was in pain, they weren't complicit in anything they were innocent. They loved her and their crime was simply being spring court citizens. Feyre laid spring bare for hybern and no you do not get to change the narrative or say she revealed Tamlin's true nature when she had to use daemati and schemes to weaken spring. She's half responsible for their deaths when hybern attacked spring. She has a responsibility to help them not because she is just high lady of night court and curse breaker but because she was a key player in their down fall.
The inner circle as a whole are responsible for the night court. They weren't in power for a few years/decades, they've been in power for centuries. They still believe hewn city is cruel and unable to change despite velaris citizens originally being from hewn city, Morigan couldn't be the only dreamer if they look closer. Illyrians aren't just brutes Cassian, Azriel, emerie, Balthazar and lord devlon show that yet stopping wing clipping is hard. Change takes time but it also needs effort and at the moment we see very very little effort from the Inner circle on text. If they want change they need to step out of velaris and actually go to the Illyrian camps and hewn city, spend time with their people instead of staying closed off and saying we're the court of dreamers. The first step is that they need to let go of their prejudice and assumptions, learn about their people.
