In Philadelphia, First Friday signals the opening of new exhibitions throughout the city. Some galleries practice Second Saturdays or follow their own schedules, but First Fridays are the tried and true originals. 

To honor this first Friday of March, we share an image by Thomas Eakins, most known for his realistic paintings. The camera was not an enemy to Eakins, but a tool to help him achieve his creative goals.
