MOTS ON:E Concept My Time & Filter
JIMIN X ON
The contrast of JK's black leather suit with a red background and Jimin's red suit with the black background..
And the way they both went from soft delicate solos like euphoria and serendipity to THESE PERFORMANCES. These devil possessed performances!!
I wanna talk about the scene at the beginning of the video for a moment because I think it was incredibly simple but effective stage choice.
There's a couple things going on in the shot ,one is the choreography itself. Its a rapid flash of BTS choreo from hit songs (ex. The shirt lift in Fake Love) So the camera crews presence also is to show the passage of time and how Jungkook has been in the spotlight nonstop , passionately performing without a break. To me it evokes imagery similiar to the story The Red Shoes by Hans Christian Anderson (who's more famously known for writing the little mermaid) . Its about a girl with enchanted dancing shoes that she is unable to remove and forced to keep on dancing.
Jungkook passes from one area of the stage to another .The transition occurs in his passage of time dance break as he passes by the motley camera and production crew who are extremely present in the video shot.
When you consider the massive scale of production, and the fact that the camera crew is not overtly present for any other stage, it becomes apparent that this choice was purposeful.
Just as the choice of putting the performance of My Time and Filter back to back on the set list is purposeful.
Filter is a song acknowledging that Jimin as a performer is seen as a sex icon and that masses of people project their fantasies and ideals onto him. And the song and lyrics own that in a commentary that is both playful and incredibly self aware.
My Time is about how Jungkook has gained world wide fame but at the cost of his childhood and that he has immensely struggled to find his own sense of self or identity that's not cast in spotlights for an audiences consumption. And the process of him coming to terms with the losses and gains of that.
The choreography is just as sexy and evocative as Filter. The sound is too. Latin pop vs. R&B . But there's a disconnect in My Time because of what the songs message is. And it's made clear once you get to the dance break.
Pan and focus the shot on the 20 camera crew who have been filming this whole time. That's the moment that breaks the fourth wall. Acting sensual. For the cameras. Run hand down thigh . Cause that's what the audience wants I guess. Its very clinical and detached . A person who is actively peeling away the layer of production to say ; are you listening to the words I'm saying or are you focused on the me who's being performative?
hes the devil T.T
Please don’t let me shine, don’t let me down, don’t let me fly, for now I’m afraid
GUYS?! BigHit just dropped this bomb af trailer and I find out now?! the astheticssss my gawd (anyone else getting a bit of fake love + bs&t +black swan vibes?) the concept seems to relate to reflections, maybe in both senses of the word
also damn these stills are so ridiculously structured they could be posters.
RM looks like he's reaching out to his persona.
His visible self that's in the (spot) light while he also stands in the dark, out of view or obscured. He's hiding something.
Jin is back with the vampire agenda and not reflecting in any of the tonne of glass around him.
He's the only one with no reflection at all. I think that it might have something to do with the larger BTSU narrative and how Jin's only way to get out of the time loop is to save his friends.
I have a theory that the reflections might be a symbol of possible outcomes.
Jin has none, despite having the most reflecting surfaces. He's one of two members not looking at a reflection, despite mirrors in the shot. More on that in a sec.
Sope parallels look like they are looking at their reflections in water, there's a slight ripple effect to it. But that's also reminds me of the angle used when viewing something out of a pit. Or an open grave.
I find this a slightly odd shift in pairing, considering in the notes and previous mvs it's Hobi with Jimin and Yoongi with jk, not sure if it's just me being sus about nothing but they've tricked us before so Imma still put it there. Idk if the colours are important but I got major #percyjackson flashbacks.
vmin look like they're on opposite sides of the same mirror, the point of the triangle has been flipped.
These two have been sharing Alot of mirrors lately. That Home performance at Jimmy Fallon's was always suspect. I wonder if this has something to do with Tae's character being able to glimpse into the future, but why focus on Jimin alone?
jk looks like he's on RM's Reflection mv but unlike Rm, he's not looking at his reflection.
Slight Jin vibes here but for a different reasons. Jk has the most reflections of all the members. But like Jin, he's also not looking at the mirrors. Holding to my theory of reflections as possible outcomes jk's erratic story outcome checks out. Too many possibilities.
I'm so hyped rt now I can't even. my Eng hons nerd brain is going into overdrive! tell me what your theories are ppl!!!
