I haven’t really voted in the most effective logo polls because I’m not sure what effective is supposed to mean. Does it mean which one I think looks better or does it mean which brand is more popular?

Hi anonymous! It means neither of those things, to be honest. The effectiveness of a logo is judged on a few things, mainly:

How memorable the logo is, even if you've only seen it once or twice; brands want you to remember their logo so you think of them next time you want to buy a product

How well it balances simplicity with unique design; simplicity = easy to remember, but uniqueness = stands out from the crowd

How easily interpreted the symbology is; colours can give different vibes, as can the use of symbols/imagery (e.g. hidden arrow in the FedEx logo, hidden bear in the Toblerone logo). However, you don't want those symbols to be so well hidden that people don't notice them on first or second glance.

How well it connects with the public; if a logo for a toy brand is colourful and joyful, it will be more affective for the intended audience than if it was black and white with formal fonts.

I hope that makes sense! Essentially, just look at any of the 2 logos on each poll and give your opinion on which one you think is most effective based on those things. It doesn't matter if you like the brand or not, or even if you've never heard of it before, it's just about whether it is effective at gaining the attention of the intended audience or not.
