just saw Karate Kid Legends and a few thoughts (ft. directly stealing from my letterboxd) minor spoilers!!!!

I think Li is the first Karate Kid to KEEP the friend he made in the beginning (the boy Daniel played soccer w totally disappears as does Dre’s basketball friend, the lil white kid from his apartment, and Julie from my recollection HAD no friends to begin with). Everyone say thank you Alan for being the only real mf

I grew up on Jackie Chan’s Karate Kid and then immediately fell in love with the OG after my Outsiders phase so this movie was made for ME and me specifically :)

what are your thoughts on jaden smith karate kid cuz it’s the one i grew up watching and i genuinely don’t gaf about the other movies/shows 😭💔 i get so maternal over xiao dre 😭😭

omg no i love it!!! i didnt watch any of these movies until about this time last year so i wasnt one of those like original trilogy purists that hated jaden smith or anything askjfsdkl

i went in thinking itd be just ok (mostly cause of remake fatigue at this point in time lmao) but i thought it was great!

when he comes in talking to mr han and is like "i realized something last night. i'm a athlete!!" like omg he was so cute. that was the moment i adopted him as my son askljfskl so i definitely feel you on that

but oh my god okay so the karate kid: legends attempted to like. build a bridge between the original trilogy and the remake by having daniel and mr. han team up to teach han's nephew. and they like completely forget dre existed?? like they make a reference to the "take off the coat, hang it up, take it down, put it on" bit but thats literally it??

han tells daniel like "what you meant to mr. miyagi is what [nephew] means to me" and me and my sister were like WHAT ABOUT DRE???? like it was genuinely disrespectful aljfdkslfjs

anyway my only complaint about the 2010 movie is that the jacket thing was like the only thing mr han had dre doing?? whereas daniel had like four different tasks in the first one lol so there couldve been some variety. but thats literally it. i loved the rest of it

yeah, dre is so son coded, and i loved his relationship with that little girl. that scene at the puppet show was literally so precious. i've only watched this one like one and a half times so i dont remember everything but i gave it four stars on letterboxd ajflkds

also omg jaden was literally so athletic in the movie?? he was out there doing actual splits and chin ups and push ups and had his legs wrapped around a post doing sit ups in mid air??? ralph sure as fuck wasnt doing any of that lmao

so overall i really enjoyed the movie! need to watch it again tbh
