Roses for you cause you’ve single-handedly dragged me into this fandom! I refused to watch Karate Kid for years, I barely heard about Cobra Kai existing and didn’t know it was in the same universe. Now I know the characters and care about them and might need to watch all of this stuff!

Genuinely your fic is so good and I love the characters and since I actually looked up stuff since I finished catching up I’m now super invested in them all but Robby and his dynamics with other characters especially. C+ parenting indeed. Hoping it works out for them!🌷

So here's a thought: I'll be honest, whump fics are weirdly my comfort read. And recently it's been the Top Gun Mavwhump ones.

But it got me thinking: by whumping characters like Maverick, Zuko from ATLA and even Daniel from Cobra Kai as much as Ive seen, doesn't it in a way, take away their agency?

They're traumatized, no doubt about that. Maverick due to his dad's reputation, his traumatic childhood and trust issues and frequent loss, Zuko from Ozai and his childhood and the Agni Kai, and Daniel from Cobra Kai/Karate Kid due to well, Cobra Kai and Terry Silver (no, his main beef was never with Johnny let's be real)

But.....they are also so much more than their trauma. Zuko is loyal and caring even after all he's been through, he loves his uncle Iroh, Maverick loves Goose and that family, he's got a best friend in Ice in TGM, and the people around him seem more frustrated by his inability to care long term than his inability to care, and Daniels got a great family and business.

But...Zuko is also brash and hot headed, so is Maverick, who's also distrusting and really bad at being a team player in both TG and TGM, and Daniel's also hot headed and he can be also overbearing at moments.

These things are not mutually exclusive. Characters are like fictional people. And people can be traumatized yet also cause sadness to others, because that is the only outlet for their trauma they have in the moment. But also, they can be traumatized and not be the only ones causing trauma. They don't have to be turned into demon spawns for that. And neither should the other characters (ahem, Katara and Sam LaRusso).

Though I'll still say this, Daniel whump is still less compared to the massive amount of Johnny whump, but still.

They're traumatized, but they're also badasses. But they are also really fucking stupid at times. But they also care.

No hate to the whump fics, they're all good, I don't have anything against them. Just some thoughts I had.
