Little Ol’ Me Intro (or: ground rules) because i seem to have a little crowd now! Hi, I’m mrs-flood (or ms-flood, either works)! I’m a huge Doctor Who nerd, obviously, which I’ve been watching since 2008. I’ve been on tumblr for about 13 years (roughly?), and have seen too many things to go back to the before times.

Now, for the obvious.

Yes, I run the official Supernatural YouTube channel. Yes I think destiel was really a thing in the show based on the material. Am i the biggest Heller out there? I’m in favor of it and support it but it’s not my personal passion the show. I’m a Sam girl myself honestly. Just remember though, whatever your opinions on queerbaiting etc. are, I’m doing the job I got hired to do, which is to make money for the studio (unfortunately). Honoring the legacy of both the show and the fans is my own personal goal, and part of what that looks like is including Destiel in the channel.

Also remember that because this channel is making money for a studio, there are a lot of restrictions i have to follow; meaning I do not have the same freedom that fan accounts have, and can’t just make or edit or put up whatever i want all the time (or at all in some cases). Things like fan edits and copyright music are no gos, to name a few.

Also also remember that it is literally just the YouTube account. Nothing comes from any of it. (Sorry to break your bubbles about season 16)

I know we all keep joking about Rogue being trapped in super hell—and yeah, that is funny—but I’m pretty convinced it's not him.

Wish World was a time loop. That’s the whole structure: the Doctor starts to doubt, gets scooped up by the Gay Doubt Police, has the big dramatic dance with the Rani… and then the loop resets.

But unless Rogue—and, by extension, super hell—were also part of that loop (which seems unlikely), why would the Doctor keep getting the exact same message from him every time? We know the loop only affects what’s inside the illusion. Anita wasn’t part of it, and she didn’t reset.

And that message is what tips the Doctor over the edge. That’s what makes Belinda hit the panic button and call in the Doubt Patrol. And the Rani? She’s precise. She wouldn't leave something that critical up to chance.

So my theory? That wasn’t Rogue. It was a fake message designed to look like him—pulled straight from the Doctor’s own memories. Just like Poppy was.

It would be so like the Rani to bake in a failsafe. Something guaranteed to destabilize the Doctor and keep the experiment consistent.

And what better way to ensure his belief starts to unravel than a perfectly tailored hallucination engineered to trigger a crisis of faith and remind them they’re hopelessly gay?

(And honestly? I wasn’t expecting Rogue to come back at all. I thought it was a one-and-done deal. I didn’t think they’d be able to get Jonathan Groff again. So finding out the message was pre-recorded back when they filmed his episode last season? Suddenly that makes a lot of sense.)

have you guys seen the ‘Ms Flood is Anita’ theory going round on reddit and twitter? i’m wary of any kind of theorising now after the ruby parentage rug pull whiplash, but this one looks like it’s got legs. here’s the gist of it:

moffat said he had to “read the s15 finale script” for some reason while he was writing his christmas special. and then he devoted a solid 1/4 of the episode to anita, essentially a tangential one-off character who was in the episode for longer than joy but not mentioned anywhere beforehand. her friendship with the doctor was given major emphasis before she was sent off to work where? the time hotel.

this is ms flood’s suitcase. a LOT of these locations have doors in the time hotel — if she doesn’t have a TARDIS, how could she have travelled to all these places? through the hotel where she spent her life working. Torajii Trains are mentioned in the newspaper Fifteen’s holding when he exits the TARDIS into the hotel lobby at the beginning of the episode.

oh, and Ms Flood is played by Anita Dobson. how’s that for an in-joke? i mean, russell had Susan Twist playing Susan Triad, there’s a precedent for it.

Why the Doctor and the Rani are Medium Aware: A Theory

Okay, I know a lot of people have been talking about both the Doctor and the Rani breaking the fourth wall and having medium awareness in these past couple seasons, and particularly why it's happening and what it means

Personally, I think it's actually relatively simple, if rather metatextual

Long story short, it all comes down to the fact that they are both renegade time lords, and what that means in a metaphysical context.

But to get to that, we have to go through some other things first.

Part 1: Time Lords and What That Means

Firstly, the time lords. We have to ask ourselves, what are they, exactly? Like, what makes a time lord a lord of time?

Initially, one might believe being a lord of time means being able to manipulate the force of time: stopping it, speeding it up, slowing it down, creating time loops, etc.

But in practice, with what we see of the time lords, this doesn't really seem to be the case, at least nowhere near the prominent thing.

Instead, the "time" that they lord over is the timeline.

In the classic series, there are multiple cases of the time lords hijacking the Tardis, and forcing the doctor to go somewhere to do some dirty work for them.

In most of these cases, they either entail making sure some event in greater galactic history comes to pass (like making sure Peladon joins the space eu or ending space apartheid in the mutants), or preventing some great malicious force from being unleashed that would have a drastic effect on history (stopping Morbius from being resurrected, trying to prevent the daleks from coming into existence, heck, it never comes up in the story, but stopping sutekh from getting free in pyramids of mars could've been something they initiated, given that story explicitly demonstrates that sutekh was powerful enough to individually change the entire course of history)

The time lords are seemingly concerned primarily with preserving the timeline as they see it, making sure critical events come to pass, and at least trying to prevent forces that could impact that history negatively.

They make sure the "canon" of the universe's history is adhered to, they control the narrative arc of history.

They are less so the lords of time, and more the lords of the narrative. They are the narrative, to the point were they haunt it truly and thoroughly after they're gone.

But where do the Doctor and the Rani come into this?

Part 2: Renegades

Again, they're both renegades, but there is something interesting about these two specifically in regards to that.

From examples in the series we do get of renegade time lords, there is variety as to why they became renegades in the first place.

Some, like the Master, believe that because they're time lords, they should rule the universe overtly, as they basically kind of do already

Others, like the Meddling Monk, intentionally bastardize the time lords "lords of the narrative arc of history" position. Going back to critical moments in history and messing with them to see what au fanfics they can get out of it.

But then there's the Doctor and the Rani.

What's interesting about them is that, on paper, they technically became renegades for the same reason: They both sought to acquire knowledge and experience that said acquisition of was vehemently prohibited by time lord society.

Now, obviously, the means and motives between the two were drastically different. The Rani wanted to take her unethical science to new heights and use the universe as a laboratory, not caring how much and how many she destroyed in the process. The Doctor, meanwhile, wanted to truly see and experience the universe and what it had to offer, instead of viewing it passively on a screen.

But still, both sought forbidden knowledge, and both got it.

So what do you get when you have to individuals who belong to a society and people that already control and are the narrative arc of the universe, but seek forbidden knowledge that is beyond even that and successfully acquire it?

You get individuals who can now go beyond the narrative, outside it, and perceive and interact with what exists outside the universe, the narrative.

Which would be us, the viewers.

That is why these two specifically can break the fourth wall.
