My Life is like a river.
The water passes and I never get it back,
the current a time taker, it’s no time giver.
With each drop flowing by I part with it forever,
but with every passing drop the mud sticks to me like plaque.
None of it I think is truly me, whatsoever.
The water runs under the burned bridges and the current destroys it’s banks and boundaries that keep the water safe and everything safe from it.Seems a never ending battle to shape this war of a life and keep my river from being split.
It seems, recently destruction is all it’s managed to create.
All the dams I’ve placed blocking it in, collapses.
I’ve seen the water give life but it can devastate.
The deeper you go the colder it gets and the stronger the dark.
It’s muddy from my own accusations and moral lapses.
Tinted to a naked eye, but transparent to a heart willing to look past the sharks.
The sun breaks through the clouds and sometimes the specks of diamonds flicker but most times it just illuminates the mud.
The ages within the replays of currents pasts and fog of future on the water toughen the softest hands and tear the hardest too, often it ends in blood.
It is noticed that at the beginning of the river the water flows pure, clear, and untouched but like so often in life it is the mouth that muddy’s it and always the mud that flows now within will be there at the end or at the start of a new small river.
I can only hope my river passes under many strong bridges,
the mud in my river gives something a life can grasp onto,
and that it gives me something to kick against so I don’t drown short of the end.
So, May my river be vast enough to take from and filter it into love so I may pour it into another’s.
My river may have many twists, wrong turn tributaries, floods, and droughts but my river will flow into a forever. I dream of deep blue ocean of purifying soul salt and the love of the moon controlling me and not the landscape of my past decisions. Though until then it will always be my Mississippi and may my muddy water teach you and your water save you.
