MUFON - the “oldest and largest civilian UFO-investigative organization in the United States” - kindly gave me permission to include these great 1977-'79 flyer designs in my art book Worlds Beyond Time.
My favorite is the 1978 flyer, because it elegantly illustrates the four different kinds of close encounter: Visual sighting, physical evidence, encountering an entity, and abduction. Just very cool design!
If you want a lot more retro UFO art, this link lists all the stores that are selling it (some might be out of stock, but most are good).
Sightings - S2E24 (UFO Special) - “UFO Hot Spots” - May 21st, 1993
“Tonight, UFO experts who conduct serious research have a whole vocabulary to describe their formative science. One term you may not be familiar with is ‘flap’. A flap occurs when UFOs appear in waves over a specific area for a specific period of time. The appearance of flaps has sinister overtones for UFOlogists who believe these recurring sightings have a secret and perhaps deadly agenda…”
Here we go: the last episode of original format Sightings and the last one on Fox, a UFO special.
We see UFO hot spots around the world - including São Paulo - before focusing in on the hottest UFO hot spot in the United States, Gulf Breeze, Florida.
A local resident talks about recording groups of up to ten objects at a time, and okay. Let's address Gulf Breeze
In 1987, one of the most famous UFO cases in history began when Gulf Breeze resident Ed Walters took astonishing photos of UFOs visiting in the area. In 1990, he moved to another house...and the new owners of his former home discovered a model of one of the UFOs in his attic. Local reporters were able to remake his photos near-exactly using it.
But then, for the rest of the 90s, Gulf Breeze retained its status as the UFO hot spot, a place where they appeared almost every night and a place that held nearly the same reputation as Area 51 or Roswell. MUFON had a hotline for Gulf Breeze sightings until 2000, after which its status as a decade-long UFO mecca faded into obscurity while the original photos carried on.
Speaking of MUFON, Arthur Huffard III speaks on "skywatching" - saying “you may have a relaxing evening out under the stars, and you may be blessed with a sighting, you never know”.
Then we move to New York: to Pine Bush, where Tim White has gone in person to speak to Bruce Cornet, who believes in aliens under the Earth.
He says he has a photo of a UFO diving into the ground and disappearing.
“Are you saying there are or could be aliens...in the Earth?”
“I’m not saying it’s certain, but I’m saying it’s possible.”
Author Ellen Crystall agrees, saying she's heard "drilling" in the woods at night and UFOs returning to the same fields; she says they must be constructing something. According to Weird US, it was her book that made Pine Bush's reputation as a UFO hot spot.
We talk to two of the many witnesses in Pine Bush, who say all their clocks stopped at the same time as their sighting in 1992 - seen by thousands, and well-documented according to White -
...then we close with barber Butch Hunt and his decked-out UFO barbershop. He estimates 60% of people in town have seen "something", with his own sighting of a massive craft lasting just thirty seconds.
The list of UFO books in there, uh, certainly includes a lot of Christian-themed ones (The Bible & Flying Saucers, The Spaceships of Ezekiel, God Drives A Flying Saucer) and conspiracy tome Behold A Pale Horse, which had just come out in 1991, its original edition straight-up having the Protocols in it. Fun!
Pine Bush, NY is the "UFO capital of the world", and it has a UFO festival and a UFO museum whose website is full of AI now. Anyway Pine Bush never really took off as a famous UFO case but is mainly profiled as a quirky local charm story.
The second a new X-Files recruit joins Tumblr.com
More than 30 people in Southern California reported seeing a giant fireball flash across the night sky on July 25, but what caused it is still a mystery. The American Meteor Society received 34 reports of witnesses seeing the fireball over the San Diego area at around 9:20 p.m. The fireball was also reportedly seen by residents of New Mexico, eastern Texas, and across the border in Mexico.
Our camera is facing south and the object flew from west to east,” Woods told NBC 7 News. “I first thought it might be a Starlink launch because this is the exact trajectory I’ve seen in previous launches, but there was nothing scheduled. So what could it have been?
