My mother was born and raised in Arkansas. She came to California during her highschool years. But she spent enough of her youth in the south to pick up some interesting vocabulary and region specific slang that would stimulate my young imagination. There are a few favorites that amused me as a kid and have stuck in my mind over the years. My Aunt Dot would say "My Fo-o-o-ot!" in a particular sing-song way instead of "bullshit" and it always made me giggle. My grandmother would say ".....as all get out" to emphasize the magnitude of something. Mom said on more than a few occasions to "hold your horses" when I was being impatient or fidgety and I'd make her "fit to be tied" if I "pushed her buttons." Then there is being "muleheaded" which refers to someone who is intractably stubborn and hard to deal with. This may or may not have been a Hoffman family trait.
