Naruto Worldbuilding Ideas/Concepts

Naruto is an interesting series with many concepts that I feel were not given the proper breadth and depth they deserved. Which left me wondering how best to interpret, break down, and understand each part of the whole to show how I think the power system works within the series itself.

Chakra [Base Concept] Despite being central to the power system, the mechanisms that produce chakra are brought up incredibly briefly during the beginning of the series and then never again. These being that Chakra (as modern shinobi understand it) is the intermingling of heavenly and earthly energies within the body. Here is what I understand to be the best definition of Chakra's composite parts.

Earthly energy is the summation of a shinobi's bodily health and physical potential. One can increase this energy through consistent training, practice, or in drastic cases, the use of stimulants or drugs.

Heavenly (otherwise known as spiritual or Mental) energy is derived from theory, mental exercises or meditation, and experience. As such, understanding the nature of a jutsu, planning its use, and repeatedly using the technique will allow the ninja to use it faster or to exert more power as they build up Heavenly energy.

The reason this rarely comes up is the difference between these composite parts bears little weight to a ninja with rare exception (Rock Lee, Might Guy, Might Dai, etc). It also explains why training is both intimately secretive and progressively intensive in all active ninja clans, to push and help maximise their potential in the field and their abilities to use and master powerful jutsu.

Chakra [Manipulation Category]

Control Chakra control is a necessary tool within a Ninja's toolkit. Knowing the exact amount of Chakra needed to execute a technique or jutsu to avoid overexertion or a failed/ineffective jutsu. As such, academies introduce focus exercises for ninja to better understand how to use and manipulate their own chakra. These exercises require a calm and focused mind and actively deliberate movements to balance and control their Earthly and Heavenly energies. On top of this, the use of hand seals is a way to focus and further Chakra control.

Chakra control and manipulation can and is often used to enhance bodily functions; like the five senses (Sight, sound, scent, taste and touch), bodily processes (processing drugs and substances), or enhancing the body and Taijutsu. That final application of Chakra control uses a substantial amount of Chakra but radically boosts speed, reaction time, strength, mobility, and durability.

Chakra control is a major necessity for genjutsu and medjutsu techniques due to the fragility and hyper specificity their techniques require.

Shape Shape transformation an potent form of Chakra control when a ninja manipulates their Chakra when using a technique. Shape transformation is the skill needed to control the form, movement, and potency of one's chakra, determining the size, range, and purpose of a technique. The ninja needs to have the perfect image they wish to manifest into reality; otherwise they may lose control of the Jutsus shape or even the jutsu itself. This can be seen in base examples like a wrong or poorly applied Shadow Imitation/Transformation jutsu getting traits and features wrong, to things like a fireball jutsu losing its spherical shape or exploding as the ninja is casting it.

Experts of this form of Chakra control and create a technique or jutsu without the necessity of hand seals; however, to do so requires immense control and an obscene amount of Chakra to perform the technique. On the plus side, these techniques are often incredibly powerful and obscenely destructive but are truly difficult to master.

As a sidenote, there should have been more Shape Transformation techniques within the world of Naruto besides the Rasengan. I can only imagine just how interesting and cool the world would be if there were other insanely powerful Shape Transformation techniques used by other ninjas other than Naruto/Minato/Jiraiya.

Nature Transformation Nature Transformation is a form of Chakra control on par with Shape Transformation. The technique affects the jutsu that ninja use by moulding and defining the characteristics of one's Chakra. Nature Transformation is one-half of the process to alter or modify a jutsu, the other half being Shape Transformation. Nature Transformation alters the properties of Chakra (Chakra burning like fire, crackling with electricity, becoming granular like dirt, churning like harsh wind, or becoming fluid and moist like water). This elemental change comes with the suffix [element release/style] before a jutsu. Example being Fire Style: Art of the Phoenix Flower

There are five base Nature Releases:

• Fire (火, Hi) is strong against Wind but weak against Water. • Wind (風, Kaze) is strong against Lightning but weak against Fire. • Lightning (雷, Kaminari) is strong against Earth but weak against Wind. • Earth (土, Tsuchi) is strong against Water but weak against Lightning. • Water (水, Mizu) is strong against Fire but weak against Earth.

Effectively, if an elemental technique clashes against another elemental technique of the same level but of a stronger nature, the technique with the superior element will succeed. However, a technique with a weaker nature can overpower one with a stronger nature if its of a higher level; such as a fire technique besting a water technique if the user exerts more Chakra or has amplified their move with a wind technique.

This clashing interactivity applies to techniques of the same elemental nature. If the techniques are of the same level and nature, they'll cancel each other out. However, if the two techniques have different levels, the higher-level technique will not only succeed but will grow stronger from its contact with the weaker technique. An example of this being when Amaterasu, the highest-level Fire Release technique, grew stronger by absorbing an opposing Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique.

Chakra [Miscellaneous] On to a touchy (at least I assume so) subject. How certain characters have so much more chakra to perform massive or incredibly complex jutsu. The series itself features several powerful exceptions to the rules of chakra use and conservation, so it begs the question, "What makes them, specifically, different?"

So, the reasons one might have an increased talent for chakra manipulation or have a greater chakra pool would be one of the following:

1. The individual is a Jinchuriki: Housing one of the 9 Tailed Beasts passively enhances the Earthly and Heavenly energies within the Jinchuriki's body. The Tailed Beasts are also in control of their own chakra pool, which they and their Jinchuriki can use. 2. Invasive surgery or extreme Medjutsu: Ninjas who've been subjected to intense medjutsu or endured incredibly invasive surgeries affect their ability to draw in Earthly and Heavenly energy into their body. 3. Potent Bloodlines: Ninja clans are often adverse to intermingling with other clans, often fearing that new elements can or would dilute or weaken the clan. Some clan Heads and Elders often arrange marriages or unions in attempts to bring together the strongest members of their clan. These leaders also often design intensive regimes to inspire competition and early training amongst the generations to build greater, smarter, and stronger ninjas. (Uzumaki, Uchiha, Hyuuga, Namikaze, Senjuu, etc).

Ninjutsu Ninjutsu exists as a category with nebulous boundaries, serving as a catch-all umbrella for Jutsu that fail to meet the requirements for Taijutsu* (physical striking techniques) and Genjutsu (illusory/manipulation techniques), such as sensory techniques (Area Scanning Technique), elemental offensive/defensive techniques (Fireball Jutsu, Water Wall Formation Jutsu), clone techniques (Shadow/sand/water clone), and physical manipulation techniques (Multisize jutsu, Shadow Puppet, Sealing technique, Space-time Jutsu).

Ninjutsu is also the term used for techniques relying or utilising ninja tools like a tripwire(Manipulating Windmill Triple Blades), paperbombs (Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags), shuriken (Shadow Shuriken Technique), etcetera, bar sword techniques (Kenjutsu)

Taijutsu Taijutsu is a category of techniques, forms, and styles revolving around martial arts/hand-to-hand combat or the optimisation of natural human abilities. It typically doesn't involve the use of Chakra at base, but it can be enhanced with it. While rare, certain *Taijutsu use hand seals and basic Ninjutsu principles into their fighting styles (Gentle Palm, Multi-size, Man-Beast, Lightning Cloak). The more experienced a ninja becomes, the more they incorporate the use of weapons/ninja tools into their training/techniques.

Certain Taijutsu is designed for a purpose. Certain techniques or styles are designed for offensive, defensive, or evasive styles of combat. Some, like the Eight Trigram techniques of the Hyuuga Clan, specialise in disarming, deflecting, and defensive approach to combat, utilising the Byakugan to their advantage in controlling the flow of battle. Much like Man-Beast Style of the Inuzuka Clan is designed for tracking, sensory specialisation (via enhancement of olfactory and auditory senses) and quick, sharp, hit and run team-based strikes.

*Nin-Taijutsu [Unique form of Multi-jutsu technique] Nin-Taijutsu is an evolved form of Taijutsu. It intermingles Chakra manipulation and shape/nature transformation into their techniques. This form of Taijutsu enhances and heightens range/effectiveness, versatility, and power of their techniques. Nin-Taijutsu is a difficult form of Taijutsu to learn and master, as such, many clans protect and guard their specialised techniques and forms with the utmost intensity. However, intensive shape/nature transformation training is needed to safely perform Nin-Taijutsu, as a lapse in focus or fluctuation in energy could be the difference in having fiery punches and burning their flesh.

Genjutsu Genjustu are the various techniques and abilities that manipulate, numb, re-orientate, corrupt, change, or otherwise destabilize a target's senses through affecting their cerebral nervous system with the genjutsu user's own Chakra. This is archetypally presented as creation false images/sounds and/or trick the body into believing its has experienced physical sensations such as pain.

As such, Genjutsu are mostly designed to manipulate the five core senses: Sight, Sound, Taste, Touch, and Smell. These are the easiest points to manipulate under both at a glance or prolonged exposure. Though masters of illusions may be able to weave multiple illusions atop one another or target the a person's nervous system and exploit their sense of temperature, time, pain, numbness, equilibrium, and in truly extreme cases even their own permanence.

Genjutsu experts employ and utilise ninja tools to accentuate their abilities or to create sensory disruptions to capitalise on when creating illusions.

• Flowing Cloth/Tassels/Strips of Fabric: These additions to a ninja's attire allow them to manipulate an opponent's close-range field of view/manipulate their shape/size, and direct their movement. Tools used for sight-based Genjutsu. • Bells/Instruments/Whistles/Chimes: Shinobi who are training in or proficient with sound-based illusiory techniques will often wear chimes, bells or hollowed out pieces of wood, so that any movement they make is an opening to cast a Genjutsu. The use of instruments or specialised Ninja tools are more obvious but allow the user to impart more chakra into their technique, thus strengthening the illusion. • Foodstuffs/Food pills: For a Genjutsu user to manipulate taste requires an incredibly talented grasp of Genjutsu principles, as it is a very subtle practice. Shinobi need to imbue Chakra into food or to use intense reactions to taste-based stimuli to trigger an illusion. An example could be intentionally overcooking/burning food or adding in a specialised herb/spice mix to cause a heightened response [sweating, increased body temperature, panting, etc]. • Perfumes/Scented Clothes/Aromatics: To induce an olfactory illusion requires manipulating/controlling a target's sense of smell. As such, many Genjutsu users may have a sealed ninja pouch containing aromatics, perfumes, or other scented tools or cloths. Surprising a target with an intense or sudden change of smell can give a Genjutsu user the opening to pull their target under their spell. • Textured Cloth/Irregular Shaped Tools/Contrasting Materials: Touch-based Genjutsu is the deadliest form of illusiory techniques. As many require the user and target to be in close proximity for the sensations from their armour/ninja tools to create the sensation feedback necessary to activate an illusion. Though many modern Genjutsu users are experimenting with thrown weapons to stretch their range

Medjutsu Medjustu are a necessary part of training for any ninja. Being able to detect poisons, diagnose an injury's severity and be able to accurately and adequately perform field surgery are major requirements for any ninja, considering the perpetual tensions and conflict the Ninja World is so intimately mired in.

In its most base form, Medjutsu is material triage/first aid [bandages, splints, slings, stitches, pain management] with the higher end of basic training being therapeutic practices to assist in healing cuts/bruises. Most of these techniques should be taught during a Genin's senior years of their time in their Academy.

Medjustu fragments into several niche specialisations such as Chakra Diagnostics, Cosmetic Alterations, Touchless Surgery, Extreme Field Triage, and Bodily Augmentation. Rather paradoxically, Medjutsu and Mednin are often used in extreme and extensive torture/interrogation techniques, inserting timed explosions/poisons into the body. A horrifying and dark inversion of the core principles of Medjutsu.

Hiden Technique [Specialised/Secret Techniques] Hiden Jutsu/Clan Techniques are powerful Jutsus developed over decades or even centuries and are closely guarded secrets. Not all Hiden Techniques may be considered Kekkei Genkai, but all Kekkei Genkai are Hiden Techniques. These special techniques can take many forms, from ocular Jutsu to manipulating their physical bodies, altering or damaging someone's chakra network, or even taking control of and dominating aspects of the environment.

Some techniques have developed over the years of training and specialising the body or the body's processes, like the Akemichi Clan's Multi-Size techniques and Butterfly Release. Their training having modified their muscle fibres and digestive system to handle the strain of the technique. While other Clans have unfortunately lost the scrolls and history of their techniques and thus rely on intuitive training methods to forcefully trigger the Hiden Technique/Kekkei Genkai into activating. Like the Uchiha Clan using hate and intensively brutal training and brotherhood to fuel the awakening of the Sharingan.

Due to the rarity of genetic Hiden Techniques (Kekkei Genkai). Many clans are often the target of attacks from outside and within their respective lands/villages in the attempt to surgically graft the body part onto a different ninja [such as the theft of an ocular Kekkei Genkai] and inserting it into an eye or a unique recess within their body.

However, anyone can create a Hiden Technique. So long as the technique is taught to all family members of the clan.

Kekkei Genkai [Combined Nature Transformation] By using two/three Chakra natures simultaneously, one can create a new Nature Transformation with unique properties that wouldn't exist naturally. Though to achieve this mingling of natures requires a Kekkei Genkai [two] or a Kekkei Tota [three]. Kekkei Genkai are derived from unique genetic anomalies within clans, allowing them to utilise or access unique techniques. Most Kekkei Genkai techniques are passed down through the generations.

There are three types of Kekkei Genkai: • Dojutsu: Dojutsu are unique eyes with special perceptive abilities, such as X-ray vision or acute attention to detail. Some dōjutsu, such as the Byakugan, are present from birth, while others, such as the Sharingan, won't awaken until specific conditions are met. Dōjutsu that are consistently inherited within a particular family, such as the Byakuganof the Hyūga clan and the Sharingan of the Uchiha clan, often become synonymous with the clan. • Advanced Nature Transformation: Advanced nature transformations combine two basic natures to create a new one, such as water and wind to make ice or fire and earth to make lava. Although it is common to use more than one nature, actually combining them requires a kekkei genkai. While some natures are commonly associated with a particular clan, such as ice with the Yuki clan, others occur within individuals with no known relationship, such as lava being used by natives of Iwagakure, Kirigakure, and Kumogakure. • Unrivalled control and manipulation of their body: Certain kekkei genkai grant their users unrivalled ways of using their own bodies. Twin brothers Sakon and Ukon can merge their own bodies or those of unrelated people. Kimimaro's Shikotsumyaku enables him to freely manipulate his bones, such as growing an additional spine for him to wield like a whip. Jūgo's body passively absorbs natural energy, allowing him to use senjutsu without requiring any training.

Kekkei Genkai users are often both coveted and hated in equal measure. Being utilised to decisively turn the tide of a battle, but those who witness their power grow to hate and fear them. The Villages make no effort to protect these ninja, only using them for their power with little to no regard for their standing in the village or their survival on the battlefield.

There have been attempts to steal or graft a Kekkei Genkai onto another ninja. There have been decades of planning, research, and experimentation and attempts to steal these genetic gifts.

• Dojutsu are the easiest to transplant, simply implanting the Kekkei Genkai into the eye socket. If the recipient does not have a genetic predisposition for the dōjutsu, using it will require far more chakra than it does for natural users. • Advanced Nature Transformation can be stolen/duplicated via grafting on cells of someone with the Kekkei Genkai or attempting intensive and invasive medjutsu surgeries to alter the DNA of a subject. • Unique physiology appears to be the one form of Kekkei Genkai that has yet to truly be duplicated in non-clan members. Which often means Villages can and have either kidnapped clan members to remove or duplicate their Kekkei Genkai or seek to systemically destroy the clan to ensure that their power cannot be wielded against them

That might be too much Sophie - seriously, there's like 5 of her! ---- Continued from Fused Frenemies A.B.B... Holly and Phoebe did not have to wait long to find out how Sophie's amorphous physiology would cope with her recent dismemberment-of-sorts. The globs of fluid stretchflesh started to ripple as always when Sophie morphed, but this time they seemed slightly out of synchronization, like a choir unprepared for the drums to stop playing. The first thing they noticed was that Sophie's legs were also morphing, and reformed into...Sophie! But they did so without changing mass, so Sophie was much smaller than expected, only having about half her original body mass and being about a half a meter shorter than usual.  At least, that Sophie was. There was more than one Sophie now, it seemed! The other globs had all congealed and morphed into replicas of Sophie as well, one considerably smaller than the leg-Sophie, and three more roughly the same size as each other, but even smaller than the second one! The second-smallest was about as tall as a toddler, less than a meter tall, while the other three were properly doll-sized. "Uh, okay, sure, that makes sense, I guess." Holly shrugged, surprised and fascinated in equal parts. "What does?" The largest Sophie asked, her voice slightly higher-pitched than Sophie's usually was. Before Holly could answer, an even higher-pitched voice rang out from one of the smallest Sophies, seeming to shriek in alarm. She had turned around to see the leg-Sophie, to her a relative giant version of herself, looming over her, and it was understandably startling.  Now all the Sophies noticed each other. Squeaky shouts of surprise swelled from the small-statured Sophies, syncopated in their shrillness and equally irritated.  "You're me!" "No you're me!" "No, I'm you!" "Why are you so big?" "Why are there three tiny me's?" More and more murmurings like these continued for over a minute. Phoebe relaxed, her lower body slithering on the floor as she suspended herself by her midsection, scratching her head as she tried to work out a way to bring some kind of order to this situation. For once, Phoebe was stumped in this endeavor.  The largest Sophie stepped into the middle of the smaller ones with her arms  and upper body outstretched, trying to command space and attention to take charge of her smaller...sisters? "Hey come on, we're all the same, so let's all chill!" "Same? Really, wide load?" shouted one of the smallest Sophies.  "We're the same," another of the smallest said, gesturing to her size-mates, "but you think you can take charge just because you're huge?" The second-smallest Sophie stepped to the side "I agree, let's just chill, okay?" The third of the smallest Sophies trotted over to join the middle-sized Sophie, but the second of the triplets to speak in this exchange shot her arms out and wrapped around the third, pulling her back toward herself. "Nah, you're sticking with us, sis!" The third grabbed onto the middle-sized Sophie's leg as her size-mate pulled her back, trying to resist, but as the middle-sized Sophie tried to shake the smaller one off her leg, the smaller one felt herself elongating like a stretch toy between her sisters' pulls. "What are you all doing?" the largest shouted again, amazed at her sisters' behavior. "Just stop being dorks, okay?" The first of the smallest Sophies crouched under her larger sister's outstretched, commanding arm and leaped up, wrapping her arms around the larger arm like it was a branch of a tree, letting her body dangle from it as she giggled mischievously, taking satisfaction from her larger sister's irritation. Holly sighed and said to Phoebe, "This will be something, all right. The bug girls can have quite a lot of difference in size if they want. After they shrink you down to live at their toes, some of them can shrink down to play with the tinies in person...

Have simpler pic. I've been back for a while despite the fact that I'm not posting a bunch. I've just had a lot of MMD stuff that hasn't quite worked out, lots of half finished animations and stuff. And that Tenshi animation took a LOT of time to make.
