Why am I doing this..
MY ENTIRE PERSONALITY IS JUST EPIC THE MUSICAL AT THIS POINT
Okay so I need everyone to understand that I have LITERALLY THE ENTIRE EPIC THE MUSICAL soundtrack downloaded on my phone. Not just my favorite songs. Not just the "greatest hits." THE. ENTIRE. MUSICAL.
2 hours and 23 minutes of pure theatrical Greek mythology glory from "The Horse and the Infant" all the way through to "Will You Fall in Love with Me Again." Every. Single. Track.
And you know what? I regret NOTHING.
My morning routine is literally waking up and belting out Penelope's parts while making coffee. My shower concerts feature dramatic renditions of Telemachus's coming-of-age moments. The neighbors probably think I'm having a breakdown when I hit those high notes in Hermes' songs.
My mom actually finds it kinda amusing when I dramatically perform "Warrior of the Mind" complete with improvised choreography in our living room. She's like "honey that's nice but can you take out the trash?" EXCUSE ME MOTHER I AM HAVING A THEATRICAL MOMENT.
My dad, on the other hand, is legitimately concerned about my mental health after walking in on me using my toothbrush as a microphone while aggressively performing "The Challenge" at 11pm on a Tuesday. The look of pure terror in his eyes when I didn't even break character to acknowledge him standing in the doorway... priceless.
Can we talk about how criminally underrated Hermes is though?? Like yes, Ody and Telemachus get all the glory but Hermes is CARRYING that musical on his divine shoulders and I will die on this hill.
And APHRODITE'S VOICE? Absolute stan. I find myself randomly singing her parts throughout the day. My siblings have started to recognize when I'm about to launch into one of her solos because apparently my face does "a thing" right before.
The amount of emotional damage this musical has done to me is ASTRONOMICAL. I am still processing my feelings about Ody killing the infant. STILL. PROCESSING. Like, was that necessary? WAS IT REALLY? I'm sorry but I cannot and will not get over this. It haunts me.
And before anyone asks - YES I can sing the entire musical from start to finish. YES I know all the words. YES I have different voices for each character. NO I will not be taking constructive criticism about my interpretation of Penelope's emotional journey.
At this point my Spotify wrapped is just going to be "hey, are you okay? blink twice if EPIC The Musical is holding you hostage."
But honestly? Worth it. This is my personality now. I am at peace with my choices.
A friend recommended this song to me and I’m completely obsessed with Pinback.
It’s definitely the kind of music that you hear when kind of depressed (but not desperately sad, just melancholic or nostalgic), maybe when it’s cold. Maybe when walking around the city in a rainy day.
Pinback reminds me of Alt-J a lot. Both have this depth in their songs, both feel strangely dancy and melancholic. Both have these bass and guitar lines that are simple, yet powerful.
The similarities are even more clear in Loro, that definitely reminds me of Alt-J’s Taro.
Pinback also reminds me of Yo La Tengo, Portishead and Built to Spill.
The only thing stopping me from becoming a theatre kid is how horrible my voice sounds
I’ve been playing wasteland baby on repeat for the past five days I know no other music I am slowly descending into the bog send help
I feel like the cast of Mozart l’Opera Rock consists of the best people on earth.
Amid the awe and tears, there is that moment of confusion when you first listen to DEH
