so does mute!harry speak regularly now or ever finds himself speaking more often around people who aren’t his wife, or is he still completely quiet?
Harry is still really quiet around strangers, for the most part.
His wife has definitely made a difference, though, and he does find himself feeling less anxious when it comes to the simple stuff — like introducing himself, answering basic questions, or saying the absolute bare minimum in a conversation to show at least *some interest in what the person is saying.
When it comes to his family — Anne and Gemma — he has shown drastic improvement when it comes to his muteness. He definitely doesn’t talk around them as much as he talks around Y/n, but at least he *speaks to them whenever they reach out, and they couldn’t be happier about it if they tried.
With Y/n, though…. Harry feels like he doesn’t shut up. Every word and every thought he bottles up inside of him whenever he’s out at work or just away from Y/n in general, he’ll take all of it home with him.
Of course, he asks Y/n about her day before he ever talks about his — will comfort her if she’s stressed, crack jokes if she’s upset, or tell her how proud of her he is or how much he loves her. But when the conversation ends and she brings her full attention to Harry, he’ll just go on, and on, and on about everything and anything that comes to his mind.
At the end of it all, Harry doesn’t think he could *ever connect and feel as comfortable talking around anybody that isn’t Y/n, but he no longer fears everything and everyone around him. And that, to him, is enough.
