Clyde was fixing up his grandpup’s famous nacho recipes. It must have enough spice, vegetables, and beef to make the perfect nachos. Everyone started digging in. After finishing up the nachos, The Crystal Bone ran. This was good because they can’t solve a human conflict on an empty stomach. One by one, the Love Puppies arrived at the Crystal Bone to show a picture of an AFrican-American boy baking a peach cobbler with his Aunt Kreisha.
Grade: Just finished the third grade and is now going on to the fourth grade.
Conflict: Wants to create his own recipe for the summer bake-off.
The Love Puppies decided to fly out and find out more about the summer bake-off.
At the bus stop, they spot Jayden with his best friend DeAndre, who is helping out with ideas on what to do with the $500 dollar prize. Deandre believed that he could use the money for ten video games or a new skateboard. However, Jayden was fine with the games and skateboard he had. Just then, the bus was coming and Jayden and Deandre were running late. Using her wind power, Noodles made sure they got on the bus in time.
When they arrived at the WRight residence, Auntie Kreisha was organizing her bookcase when Jayden and DeAndre came in to talk about the competition.
As it turned out, Summerland was holding the Young Bakers Summer Bake-Off and the first place winner got $500. There was a catch though: They have to do both a cookie recipe and a recipe they make up themselves. DeAndre decided to go home and come up with new ideas for a recipe.
Observing carefully, they could watch Jayden practice an Extra Peachy peach cobbler recipe, with the help of his Aunt Kreisha and his older brother, Durrell’. Jayden tried making the Extra Peachy peach cobbler two times, but it was frustrating and he decided to give up. Aunt Keisha and Jayden were worried.
Clyde suddenly remembered the Double Chunk Cookie recipe so he flew back to the dog house to get it. He gave it to Barkley and the invisible dachshund placed it on Jayden’s comic book.
Jayden took a gander at the recipe and gave it a shot. Sadly, it was a recipe for dogs and not humans. He was supposed to use chocolate chunks for the human recipe and not bacon.
Back at the clubhouse, The Love Puppies were thinking of another way to make sure JAyden wins the contest. Suddenly, they realized that it wasn’t about winning, it was about Jayden getting past the finals and making sure the recipe is delicious.
The very next morning, The Love Puppies snuck into the apartment and added a few ingredients to the second batch. Rosie added some peppermints while Noodles added a rainbow of good luck. Even though it was against the rules to use their Magic Powers to win competitions, Noodles knew that Jayden shouldn’t give up on his passion for baking. Jayden and Durrell were coming back from the bathroom when they tasted the freshly made batch of Chocolate Chunk Cookie recipe. It was there they realized that the Chocolate Chunk Cookie recipe needed some peppermint.
DeAndre arrived to explain some new ideas when Jayden gave him a sample of the new batch. He loved it. The only thing left is the ORIGINAL recipe. They had to choose between DeAndre’s PB n Dre Drops or Auntie Kreisha’s meringues. Jayden chose the meringues because she would’ve wanted him to share those with the campers.
On Sunday, it was time for the Summerland Bake-off. While everyone was busy prepping up their booths, The Love Puppies prepared Jayden’s booth. They finished it the moment Jayden, DeAndre, Durrell, and Auntie Kreisha arrived. The pups immediately hid in the gazebo so they wouldn’t get spotted. Jayden and his team laid out the Fly Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Kreisha’s Meringues, and Toffee Pretzel Bars. In the end, Jayden and DeAndre won the competition. They decided to split the prize, because they’re best friends.
Clyde was SO proud of Jayden for doing his best, he rushed up and ate the meringues undetected. It was there that the Love Puppies realized he had gained a new power: The ability to eat anything, including chocolate.
Back at the Dog House, the pups were celebrating with some nachos while they watched Jayden make a prototype and a REAL birthday cake for Aunt Kreisha’s birthday.
