Just finished Drack's loyalty mission and while I enjoyed the humor (especially in my case Vetra basically telling Drack not to despair because the exiles will eventually get better at shooting at them), it's taking a very light approach to "old man veteran who leaves his own people because he has seen too much and lived too much and doesn't feel like he fits in this new world".
The game doesn't have a lot of time to spend on this issue, and to be fair, it's a really big topic. It's linked to despair, trauma and suffering but researching what life is like after trauma and war is also an exercise in understanding resilience and what makes people feel like they belong. It's also about meaning: how to find it and where. So yeah, a bit big for a light MEA mission. And way too big for me to even consider all the aspects in one post. Also, researching is one thing, but it's not always the same as fully understanding.
So to go back to Drack, him feeling like he doesn't belong in a time of peace and hope - well, I wish we had more missions and scenes to explore that - especially when you add this perceived notion by others he believes he is expendable and is acting a bit reckless. But people around him telling him he does belong and that they need him is quite sweet. He needs to hear it.
