Saw a really pretty dog at Home Depot today and couldn’t figure out wtf it was, overheard the owner telling someone it was a American Indian Dog. Do you know anything about them? All google had to offer was a really wacky byb’s website so I’m guessing they’re not a “real” breed?
They’re a “wolfalike” that often has wolf-content, typically called Native American Indian Dogs, shortened to NAIDs. Breeders often claim a ridiculous amount of special accolades about these dogs such as them not having wolf content (insert eye roll here) or being hypoallergenic (give me a fucking break) and can live to twenty years of age (LMAO).
Despite being a designer wolf-mix, breeders will also claim that Native Americans have used these dogs for centuries (for what purpose exactly? They won’t be able to tell you). I mean just read this absolute ~crock of shit~.
They are def in the vein of breed/designer dog that uses actual indigenous history to make their BYB dogs look exotic and different. Which is gross. Native American Indian Dog sounds sooooo special doesn’t it? Kinda like how doodle sounds a lot cuter than poodle mix. They can be pretty, but you can get the same results from responsibly bred low content wolf dogs, huskies, malamutes, etc.
