Let me share this song that I've been obsessed with over the past few months.

NAIDOC Week 2025
It's currently NAIDOC week in Australia - a week to celebrate the culture of First Nations peoples. This year's theme is The Next Generation: Strength, Vision, Legacy. It's also a milestone - 50 years of NAIDOC existing. I decided to create an artwork inspired by the theme.
The eyes in some of the leaves of the tree represent vision. The deep roots represent strength. The background trees are legacy, I couldn't really convey it but they're seedlings that sprouted mainly from the foreground tree. The handprints on the tree are another symbolism of generations, and the lines surrounding them flowing into the earth is connection to land. The blue swirls at the bottom are water. I did use swirls and stylised imagery in this to evoke a similarity to Aboriginal art, but didn't use any specific symbols because I don't believe as a non-Aboriginal person I'm supposed to. The handprints are specifically the glyphs I made for a magic system.
