Got this whole daikon for ¥150 and someone has been going crazy for it! Which I was ignoring because this is the same good boy who, when I put on my earrings, sits down daintily to say “May I please have some, please”—he doesn’t know what anything is; he just knows he wants to try it!
Then I peeled it and fed him a couple nibbles and it turns out he actually does LOVE it. Like, with carrot or lettuce, he will eat one bite and maybe try or sniff a second, but he would’ve eaten as much of this pungent radish peel as I was willing to give him! Wild. He chomps down with his back teeth and gets crazy happy cronching face. It’s adorable.
Anyway, I made this daikon and carrot namasu and, with the nice bits of skin, some daikon skin pickles that a sushi chef taught me about! Excited to try them tomorrow or the next day!
