NARUTO Chapter 600 REVIEW
This chapter is so full of WTF's. WHERE TO START.
I guess we'll take it from the top as usual!
But first - THIS IS THE 600th CHAPTER OF NARUTO!! WOW! What an accomplishment for Kishimoto and his team!! Think about it. Each chapter is 15 pages long x 600 = 9000.
You know what that means for next week, right?
Sooo this chapter picks up exactly where last week's left off, with EVERYONE GOING APE SHIT.
Guy voices what all of us have been beating our brains out over this past week...
And here it is folks! The OFFICIAL identification of Tobi as Obito!! Again, a hardy CONGRADS to those who guessed it. (Will they EVER shut up about it?)
But as I mentioned in last week's review, this is clearly NOT the same Obito from Kakashi's past. And that's what we all want to know now... WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!?
I was hoping the chapter would transition into the beginning of an explanation, but no. Instead we got... MOAR FLASHBACKS!!!1!!1
These flashbacks simply serve to further illustrate the differences between loyal, self-sacrificing Obito and the piece of work that is Tobi.
WTF. Why can't Rin take care of Rin? She's a ninja! Dear lord, why must girls always have to be "looked after" in this manga? It obviously just causes problems!
The scene finally switches back to Tobito and company and Tobi says something that I found interesting:
"I"? Whatever is going on with Tobi, he clearly has identity issues. First he's Madara, then "nobody," now Obito. To me, it appears that he views himself less as a specific person and more as a means to an end. He'll be anybody - and do anything - to achieve his ultimate goal. But still, so many questions remain, like WHY OBITO?
I'm supposed to believe all of this Moon's Eye crap is due to Tobito's heart break? :| Yeah no.
Though Obito obviously cared greatly for Rin, since he has been "Tobi", I would like to think his motivations for world domination run much deeper than a case of tragic love.
But based on this statement, perhaps Tobito just views Rin as another victim of the cycle of hatred that is the shinobi world.
Maybe Kabuto should've resurrected Rin and made her a trump card as well. Though I wonder how that would've gone over... "KABUTO-YOU'RE FIRED!"
Naruto is quick to jump in and try to refocus everybody back to the battle at hand. The Gedo Mazou is still in the process of transforming into the JUUBI, so soon Tobito is going to be the least of everybody's worries.
We finally get to see Tobito use some KATON fire jutsu! And WOAH. Combined with his eye technique it is BAD ASS.
Thankfully, Naruto jumps in to tame the flames with the massive chakra tails of Kurama that activate in his new Rikudou Mode.
But wait - what's that?! Up in the air. It's a BIRD! It's a PLANE! It's-!!
What an AWESOMELY AWESOME way to close out this chapter!!! And really, what better way to raise the stakes in this battle!
With Madara's arrival though, what does this mean about the fate of the Kage? In particular Onoki? I guess it depends on now merciful Madara was feeling, but I have a feeling the Kage are mostly intact because it would be bad form for Kishi as a writer to just dump them without the readers around to bear witness.
As my best friend Momo suggested, this probably means the Kage won't be too far behind Madara, as they will most likely chase after him. So me thinks we can expect them to arrive shortly as well.
I thought those disappeared after Madara freed himself from Kabuto's control. HMM.
Overall, I thought this chapter started out a little rocky with the flashbacks, but picked up at the end once Tobi started to talk and Madara arrived.
Speaking of which, it's interesting that Madara refers to Tobito as "Obito" and NOT "Tobi." Is this our cue to refer to him as such from now on as well?
And this familiarity brings up another mystery we've all been VERY curious about: How does Madara even know Obito?? As they are clearly from different eras...The gaps and inconsistencies in Obito's timeline are incredibly puzzling.
* One explanation: TIME TRAVEL
Oh god no. PLEASE NO TIME TRAVEL KISHI!
Though it would conveniently tie everything together:
- How did Madara and Obito meet? TIME TRAVEL.
- How did Obito challenge Minato, his sensei, shortly after "dying?" TIME TRAVEL.
TIME TRAVEL = MAGICALLY FIX EVERY TIMELINE ISSUE no JUTSU
* Second explanation: MORE THAN 1 TOBI
Perhaps "TOBI" is simply a name for individuals who have forsaken their identity in the pursuit to insure the success of the Moon's Eye Plan. This could explain why Obito refers to himself as "nobody." But then who came up with "Tobi?" How does Zetsu fit in to the equation? Perhaps it all began with Madara? Was Madara ever "Tobi"?
Whatever the true explanation is, I just hope it's interesting. That's all I ask for Kishi!
Staying on the topic of theories, I quite like the idea that Obito is a descendant of Madara. Look at 'em, they kind of look the same... and stand the same. Bad ass Uchiha.
Overall, I give this chapter a RATING of:
It's getting us set up for some awesome action (I hope) and explanations (I hope)!
The Kage will join the battle too eventually. And perhaps the Konoha 11 as well?
Orochimaru with appear with Sasuke, point to Obito and Madara and say, "There ya go, the Ones-Who-Know-Everything. Ask away!"
I'm always interested in what you guys have to say! Which theory(s) do you think best resolve all these damn timeline issues with Obito??
