For the minific prompt - Julie Mao and Miller, D and/or R :)
It took me since OCTOBER but I finally posted my “drabble” for you, using D which was “Waking Up” and it blossomed into a the whole “What if Julie got to join the Roci” AU I’ve been DYING to write since forever so just as a lesson to all of you, it may take years, but I WILL get to the drabble prompts as much as I can lol.
Awakening - Joe Miller/Julie Mao
Fandom: The Expanse
Words: 7,924
Summary: Julie Mao never contracted the protomolecule virus, but she did almost die of fever and dehydration in that flophouse on Eros.
Now on the Roci, she wonders if the Belter detective who rescued her will ever meet her eye, much less talk to her, and what she’s going to have to do to get some answers out of him. All while trying to ignore the truly inconvenient crush she’s developed on her rescuer.
Tagged by @nasturtian -- thanks so much! Goal: tag nine people you’d like to get to know better.
Relationship Status: Single and ... theoretically ready to mingle, but too lazy to put forth the effort
Favorite Colors: Green and purple
Lipstick or Chapstick: Honestly, I always side-eye this question, because like, they’re not interchangeable? One is fashion, the other maintenance. Doesn’t everyone use chapstick now and then? But I do adore bold lipsticks, so yeah, I often wear that as well. (Today is hot pink.)
Last Song: “Mercury Dime,” Death Vessel
Last Movie: In theatres, The Mountain Between Us; in general, Fellowship of the Ring.
Top three shows: mmmm, I don’t feel like picking faves, so here’s the last three I binged: Mindhunter, Stranger Things 2, and The Exorcist. (shhhh, i am still in progress on Exorcist, no spoilers, i am only through 1.07!)
Top 3 ships at the moment: I’ve recently gotten into Reddie (It, Richie/Eddie) and Nygmobblepot (Gotham, Ed/Oswald) and have been experiencing a renaissance of the ol’ Sansan feels as well (ASoIaF, Sandor/Sansa).
Contrary to the stated goal of the meme, I am ... not going to tag anyone, because I just can’t get my brain into tagging gear at the moment. If you want to do it, consider this your invitation to do so (and to tag me if you wish).
@the-roci replied to your post: Been working on this for what feels like forever....
I sat on this until I had time to properly read it. Man, SO good. I love the crew acting as a unit, and it all seems so natural. You don’t get that with many fics. I love the the connections with all the characters - especially Alex not being able to lose a brother. The connection through it all is wonderful.
Thank you so much! I was really hoping I did Alex justice here because that was one of my favorite parts of S2 :)

:flails: such a perfect ending! Especially the Lydia parallel and the difference and aAAAAAAAH
Your flailing delights my soul, just so you know. ^^ Thanks for all your help on this bby.
@captainivyb replied to your post:
I loved this. The Roci family moments, Amos' backstory and trying to protect others and getting hurt in the process, the difference between Lydia's concern for his safety/their relationship and Prax's. Mei's stuffed animal, everything. Lots of hurt but lots of comfort to make up for it.
Thank you so much, I love hearing the parts people liked. The contrast between Prax and Lydia was my favorite part to write.
@bduarte-us replied to your post
Love it! Especially the Nolden moments.
Thanks! They really are adorable :D
@calllay replied to your post:
Wow, this is heartbreaking! So many Amos feels! I love the contrast of "I can't lose you" vs "I don't want to lose you", that hit me as really striking and insightful.
Heeeeee, I just love the difference a little word change can make.

Heh, so here with you on the kholrabi conundrum - I'm a member of a community garden, and I get a veg box from a local farm, so every year they come into season and it's like "but what do I /do/ with this?" There's only so much coleslaw one can make, y'know?
I know the feeling! Don’t ask me about how much of the space in my fridge is, at this very moment, occupied by root vegetables, okay? As far as the kohlrabi goes, I recommend using it as a radish substitute, but I’m not super-creative with it, either.
vermiculated replied to your post “Cooking meme”
wait, you PREFER an electric stove? but what if you need to make s'mores? (i realize that's not so much a 'cooking project' as it is 'girl scouts!!' but still.) regardless: this is a great meme.
I know, I know: it's the sort of character flaw that would get me kicked out of some troops, but as for the specific question of s'mores: if there's no risk of getting pine needles in them or having them stolen by the counselor, then really, what is the point? (In my defense, my first - and only - gas stove was in the apartment that also had gas leaks and an ethusiastically incompetent DIY landlord.)

Yay I'm so glad you did this! I love finding out about other people's cooking lives. I laughed at the bit about wanting to feel like Brother Cadfael with your mortar and pestle! :D
He and all his assistants seemed so satisfied by being herbalist Benedictines, even the clumsy ones! I wanted to be him, only female, not Christian, bad at gardening, unlikely to discover corpses, and less of a matchmaker. When I was 14, it seemed like an achievable goal.
Fanfic ask meme - F, H, S!
F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
This was much harder than I expected. I have lots of favorite bits of my writing, but it turns out, few of them are dialogue - and even those have a lot of other stuff in them (or require a lot of explanation if I’m going to present them without the whole story behind them). Anyway, I found this bit, from a nearly finished original story.
“You’d be fine,” Mat said, sounding cheerier than he felt. “Anyway, I’dbetter get back. You never know what might happen.”
Stuart chuckled. “Your paperwork will stage a coup and create the Files’Republic of Cabinet?”
H: How would you describe your style?
My personal style? Chaotic, with a side order of creative disarray.
My writing style? Realistic fiction, with strong characterization and plot, combined with interesting world-building.

Someone else picked S, so I’ll answer it for them, but would you like to pick a different third question?
