The Bailey Twins (Letter 11)

Dearest brother,

Well...none of that went as expected.

I accompanied King Roman into the city today. Of course, I had to stay on high alert. If anyone intended to make a move on him, it was my job to stop them. That left little time for conversation.

One of the places we stopped at was Melissa’s bakery. I was excited to see my friend - that is, until we walked in and the King actually looked at her. I could see right away on his face, he thought her the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen! He did not stop flirting, not once in all the time we were there. Now, of course Melissa is lovely, and charming, and beautiful...but I did not expect her to capture the King’s heart so quickly!

I’ll admit that as happy as I was for my friend, I did feel a pang of jealousy as I listened to them. When we got back in the carriage, the King asked what I thought of her. He genuinely seemed to want my opinion, so I told him that she is one of my best friends - of course, then he wanted to ask question after question about her. He even asked if she was single. I answered all of his questions honestly, because what else can you do?

I admit that I am somewhat hurt... I had started to dream up this fantasy wherein Roman and I fell in love, but obviously that is not to be.

Chance sounds lovely. I hope to meet him soon.
