I went to see Us yesterday after the powwow, and just as a head’s up, there’s a scene at the beginning where the main character walks into one of those funhouses with all the mirrors and it’s called “Vision Quest” and has a giant sign with a chief on it. This scene takes place in 1986 and when ti shifts over to present day, the funhouse has been changed to Merlin’s Forest, with a picture of a wizard instead of the chief.
And although it’s very subtle, there’s a scene on the beach where Elizabeth Moss’s character is reading a magazine and tells Lupita Nyong’o “Isn’t this pretty?” and you can vaguely see a picture of a white woman wearing a warbonnet.
It’s only for these two scenes, they’re very brief, and there aren’t any other scenes like it afterwards. It was still a bit cringey for an otherwise good movie.
