Prologue
"Taeyong where were you?"
"Out."
"Where?"
"The city."
"Where in the city?"
"Near the road."
"Which damn road, Taeyong?"
"It doesn't matter, the only person paying me any mind was some person I saved."
"That's a big deal! Who'd you save? How'd you save them? What happened?"
"Johnny shut up, I'll explain at the meeting later for god's sake, it really doesn't mean anything."
Taeyong then walked away to his office where he discarded his jacket on the chair, but not before pulling out the paper that had your number. Straightening it out, he looked it over, noticing you even left your name. It wasn't the easiest to read, but he had seen a lot worse. He quickly put the number into his phone without bothering to message it. Even if he wanted to see how you would respond, he decided he had more important things to do at the time. Such as figure out the next mission for the rest of NCT. He already knew what it was, but he had to finalize the plan so the other members could put their input on it later.
That's exactly what happened. "Next week there's going to be a gathering for the for those that are somehow related to the King Company. Going into it, we know we have a lot of people against us that will be attending, but yet they cannot identify us unless someone has something to say." He paused, taking a moment to scan everyone's face. No one spoke. "Great, we should be fine then. Some of you are already known to the public as either business owners or heirs to large companies. Due to this some of you will be able to attend said gathering, making it easier for the rest of us to infiltrate through the back doors. Obviously there will be plenty of guards because of all the high profile people, but as proven before, that should not be a problem. If anyone has questions go ahead and ask now or just find me later."
"What happened earlier," Johnny asked.
"Some person was about to get hit by a truck, I saw no reason to let it happen, I tackled them to the ground to save them. Tried walking off but they wouldn't have it, chased me down tried to do something in return for me saving them, and that's all there is to it."
"Then why'd you seem so content when you got back?"
"I wasn't."
"You were, I've known you for years, the smallest of differences in your attitude have become noticeable to me, Taeyong."
"Let's just say, I messed with them, they got flustered and threw their phone number at me before storming off. It was rather amusing of course. So I wasn't content, Johnny, I was amused."
"Whatever makes you happy. What are you going to do with their number?"
"Annoy them again? I enjoy their reactions, so I might just have to take them up on their offer to do something for me."
"Not that it's what we're talking about at the moment, but, uh, why are we crashing the gathering," Mark asked.
"We're not crashing it, we'll stay as calm and normal as possible, but as always with these types of gatherings, there's always something that we can benefit from, especially since the CEO of the company will be there leading the event. You've been with us for years, shouldn't you know this by now?"
"Uhm, I try?" A few people let out a small laugh at Mark.
"At least he's not the most innocent of the bunch, Chenle and Jisung still have a lot to learn," Ten said. More laughs erupted from around the room, all cutting off the moment Taeyong opened his mouth to speak.
"If nobody else has any questions or comments, all of you are free to go on your ways for today. If you need me, you know where to find me. Also, those of you that are attending the get together have probably received invitations, if not we can use someone else's as a means to replicate them. In hoped we'll have one of you checking tickets, so even if it isn't exact, it should not prove to be a problem. Don't forget that some of you will actually be working the event, too."
After waiting for Taeyong to finish, a few members got up and went their own ways for the time being while others waited for their leader to leave. It never bothered Taeyong if everyone else left before him, but some of them cared so he might as well leave, especially since he would be in charge of helping cook dinner later that night.
"To any of you that are still here, is there anything that you want for dinner?"
A few heads snap towards him when his low voice reverberated throughout the room, not having expected him to say anything else until it was time to eat. A few requests rang out, especially from the younger members, causing Taeyong to let out a small smile. It was rare that he let his emotions show, but he felt safe with these men and trusted them with his life, so showing a bit of emotion every now and then couldn't hurt. After the responses had died down he left the meeting room and went back to his office, pulling out his phone to look at your contact once again. Deciding to go for it, he pressed the call button.

Running through the night streets with his hand in yours was one of your safest moments. You felt so free and calmed from your usual busy and hectic lifestyle.
He made you see a part of yourself you had forgotten a long time ago. He made you live in the moments you were together. It was amazing and an indescribable feeling. It was...euphoric.
Euphoria...Taeil...
.
.
Interchangeable terms by your own definition
.
.
When you thought of Taeil you thought of warmth...security...love
Running through an open field to end up falling to the ground in a heap of giggles and loving laughter.
The sense of happiness actually being a smell. It was his own scent.
His laugh was as refreshing as a spring rain or the electrocuting feeling you get when you drink fizzy soda too fast.
His smile could turn the shittiest days around and him holding you could warm your heart in the coldest of nights
Your world was soaring into the clouds and you were flying
.
But that was then
And now your world is plummeting and your back hits concrete with a painful reality check
Everything came crashing down in the split second you walked into the usual bustling apartment. Now it was cold and lonely. No food being prepared from your boyfriend and his friends.
No welcome home kiss
No ice breaker questions asking how your day went
No explanation for why it looks like he removed any trace of himself from your life.
.
His clothes were missing and yours were spread out perfectly as if they were never moved to accommodate another person
His coffee mug now missing from the usual place is sat next to yours in the kitchen
His house slippers were gone from the basket next to the door
His keys not on the hook where he always threw after a long day of whatever the hell he was up to
...his warmth and bright energy extracted from this once lively apartment...
You ran and ripped the whole bedroom apart to make yourself calm knowing that you were never going crazy. He exists...and you know he did.
You finally shimmied your body halfway under the bed, ignoring the dust bunnies and other surprises that crawled under there when your back was turned.
You grabbed the usual box and quickly shimmied yourself back out to sit on your bottom. You ripped open the box and was met with relief.
His hoodie...still in your memory box. It was there...he was here...
You just slipped on the hoodie and held it against your body as it still swallowed you away. You just sat there and waited...waited for Taeil to come back and tell you it was a prank...tell you that he would never leave you...tell you that his promise of 'forever' really was forever.
You gripped your childhood bunny and and just sat there in the middle of your bedroom floor.
Your eyes were begging for release of the built up water but you didn't want to cry...it was going to be okay. You hoped and prayed it was going to be okay. And atlas, you were met with the buzzing of your phone.
You scrambled all the way out of the room and into the living room where it sat on the table. You picked it up and read the alert.
ALARM : WAKE UP SWEETIE
You held your breath and scrolled through your contacts but was met with nothing...not a single trace.
You just stood there in the middle of your living room in Taeil's hoodie, the bunny clutched in your arms, phone in your hands, and looking around like an idiot...you were lost.
...he was gone...
~~~~~
He watched you break down slowly over the course of the whole night; barricading yourself in his forgotten hoodie and clutching the stupid bunny he swore you would never need again.
He was alive and well...and on his way to his relocation.
Whole team was picked up and moved to Busan...hours away from you...
He felt guilty just picking up and leaving
...but he knew he would feel more guilty telling you and then still having to leave you there...
It wasn't fair. None of it. He wanted to be home with you...you were his home.
But now he had to just watch you from the cameras and hope to a higher being that you'll survive the first week alone. The first week was always the hardest.
It's when reality sets in and you can do nothing but sit back and try to accept it.
It's when your monsters come out and taunt you, and you have no one to run to.
"You okay?" Taeyong asked from the drivers seat and Taeil nodded as he looked at you from his phone--looking around like a lost puppy and holding the only thing you had left.
No. "Yeah. Just checking on the warehouse stats." Taeil shrugged off, closing his phone.
"Taeil...It's okay to miss her. You had to leave-"
"I'm fine." Taeil rolled his eyes and leaned to cuddle into the window. "No...you're not..." Taeyong concluded.
Taeil's heart was holding onto the last thread before breaking completely in half. It hurt to breathe. His eyes stung and his throat felt swollen and unusable.
"I told you that you could bring her down and introduce her to the business...and she could get more protection, maybe a job, you could be closer to her-"
"She wouldn't want to be with me after knowing what I truly did." Taeil said and it finally happened...his heart broke and settled in the pit of his stomach.
"And I wouldn't let her become one of us." Taeil said looking at Taeyong. Taeyong periodically looked at Taeil where he sat angry and hurt.
Knowing that taking it out on Taeyong wasn't going to help, Taeil sat back in his child-like position.
"She's so much better than us..."
His chest vibrated for a moment.
"She's so much better than that."
