So like, some of you guys complaining about Cassian's sister get why she was never found, right? She's a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman. He's the indigenous man who lost his sister to colonial violence. Yeah we can question having a character exist to give another pain, that's fine, but the reason he never finds her is because what she represents to the indigenous communities around the world, not because they were trying to fridge her.
If I see someone drawing a Native American with red skin - not reddish brown (which is still bad), but actual Crayola crayon red - I will break into their house and weld all their silverware into a giant unusable ball.
I want to make it so Disney drops Pocahontas from their list of official Disney princesses. Like, that whole thing is just awful, and I’m sick of seeing her in merchandising.
Maybe they can create an actually authentic Native American story to replace those movies, but I don’t have a lot of faith in them. Literally the only good Native representation from Disney is the Brother Bear series, and that’s already pretty underrated.
I’m just disgusted by Disney creating a film about an actual real life person who suffered for the sake of her people, but they just turned it into a Romeo and Juliet clone. Not to mention all the racist and possibly uncomfortable undertones this movie gives off. It’s just bad.
Something that will always bug me is that both DC and Marvel have this huge backlog of Native characters that they do nothing with. They’ll introduce them, or use ones from acquired companies, put them in a team for a while, but then just drop them and leave them in comic limbo until a future creator brings them back.

Like, look through this page (especially on the sections regarding the big two), and tell me how many of them make regular appearances. As in, either have a solo book, or a have main role in an ensemble/team book. It’s not going to be a lot, trust me.
Do you guys remember Equinox? The DC Cree heroine who gets her powers from her connection to the earth and “the seven pillars of Cree life”. She first appeared in 2014 and I’ve seen nothing of her in years. I only know about her because I read a bunch of wiki articles. She looks cool, so I’m considering looking into her.
Miiyahbin "Mii" Marten is a 16-year-old Cree girl from Moose Factory Island, Ontario, who became the superhero Equinox. She uses the power o
That’s the point I’m making, comic companies have a hard time sticking with their Native representation, and we should hold that against them. We need more Native representation in media.
To anyone trying to reconnect with their ancestral heritage and culture: please don't feel ashamed for not knowing things or for not learning "fast enough". It's big work, and you will invariably always find more information, nuance, and stories among your people. I don't think I'll ever stop, even after I'm lnui'site'waq and know all the stories and history I can find. Our cultures are alive and growing and adapting, as all cultures do.
To anyone interacting with someone trying to reconnect with their ancestral heritage and culture: please don't shame or tease or make fun of people trying. Unlike the ancestors of we who are disconnected, we are not hiding or spurning who we are anymore. I understand my ancestors reasons, and I do not fault them for it. Regardless of that, isn't it a joyful thing to see our communities reconnect? To see lost cousins found? The see languages revived? To see knowledge kept alive? To see how we'll grow into the future?
