happy wip weekend @tmgt your tag is my command!
working on I Wrote Your Name Down chapter 5:
The hotel was cold and brutalist; no artwork adorned the smooth concrete walls, there was no furniture to give one a place to linger in the common spaces. Celia’s footsteps echoed loudly in the overlarge hallway, with nothing to dampen the sound. Some considered it luxurious, but it reminded Celia of a parking garage. She couldn't imagine feeling at-home in this place. Perhaps that was why Caroline Phillips had chosen it. Why would she want to stay somewhere that felt like home, when home was no longer a safe place? The woman had seen her home turned into a crime scene, her walls pierced by gunfire, her floors lacquered with blood. Of course, she wouldn't want to feel as though she were home.

If she has a goal, she will abandon basically everything in order to achieve it. Melodi hates all the things about herself that she deems “not like an idol”, such as her glasses (she usually wears contacts) and the fact she trips over her words when she’s excited.
Her love of idols means she has lots of memorabilia and memories of attending splatfests. Besides this, she enjoys some non idol artists too such as Chirpy Chirps and Wet floor.
Her biases are:
Squid sisters: Callie
Off the hook: Marina
Deep cut: Shiver
Backstory (TW for bullying):
Melodi was a young girl who was friends with everyone. One day, her parents finally let her attend a splatfest and she was hooked ever since. When she returned to school, people began to pick on her for everything, from her appearance to her personality to her autism. When she read an article about Marina’s past, she got the final push to try and become an idol. Later on, she befriended Saphire and the duo have been inseparable since.
Shoutout to @impytheoctoling for giving me inspiration to make her!

So just an update on my writing journey this far and things I’ve learned about myself as a writer by taking a step away from fanfic into original work.
I’m a discovery writer. I have an idea and start to write without tons of planning or detailed outline. With fanfic this has never been an issues because I know more or less the story from the source material and construct my work from there. In original work however, poor planning resulted in me discovering the direction I wanted to go had changed so much from what I was originally writing that I had to scrap 6k words which was and still is so incredibly painful. (Screaming, crying, throwing up 😂)
I’m super comfortable writing dialogue, it comes so easy that I almost didn’t realize how much I lean into that to avoid describing scenery, character features and even clothing. Where is someone standing in any of my fics? What are they wearing? Shit if I know.
I love using line breaks when writing fanfics, it helps me quickly and effectively skip over parts of the story that I just don’t feel like writing. I can’t line break after every single scene in my novel to move the story along and I hate that for me.
80k words is much less intimidating when you break it down to 1,000 words per day with a break and celebration after every 10k. Realistically you could finish a draft in three months using this schedule.
The words will come, but I have to be militant in reaching my words count goals. Every single day I go over. Most times I have no idea what I’m going to write until I’m actively writing this.
Naming characters is easy for me. Most times their names present themselves immediately. Sometimes I will change them but not often.
I visualize stories like a movie inside my mind, it’s really hard to put that effectively into words when I’m seeing something no one else does.
I will always be grateful for all that I’ve learned while writing FanFiction and I will never abandon it.
"I've captured your family," the Buzzard informed, a sly smirk plastered on his beak, "You've lost."
"Ah, you see, mister whoever-you-are, normally I would agree with you. 100%. But you're forgetting one crucial detail!" Gladstone responded, his uncle's cane held in his hand.
"And what detail might that be, exactly?"
"Your bloodline," The goose pressed a button on the cane that caused two axeheads to make themselves known, leaving him with a curvy-handled axe, "It's being ended."
