Favorite non Disney/Ghibli animated film?
Ooooooooh man, this is actually a hard one because I actually have a few!
First being The Iron Giant from Warner Brothers Entertainment. I absolutely ADORE this movie, and it makes me very sad that it didn’t do well in the box office, but admittedly the marketing department did not do a very good job advertising it, but it eventually became a wonderful cult classic that I have no doubt all of my followers have at the very least HEARD of before if not watched it.
The blend of 2D and 3D animation in this movie felt so seamless, there was not a single moment I didn’t believe that the Giant didn’t belong in any scene, his interactions with the characters felt organic and not clunky at all. The animation on the characters was gorgeous as well of course, the facial expressions, the hand gestures just...everything was beautiful. And don’t even get me STARTED on the writing, that is one of the movies I always cry at the end of. Every. Single. Time. To anyone who hasn’t watched it yet I highly recommend it! It is a gorgeous film, and very heartfelt.
Second would have to be a tie between Coraline and The Corpse Bride. Both amazing and whimsical feeling stop motion films that I literally could watch multiple times over and over again, and not be bored. I love the music in Corpse Bride, the songs remind me of the Nightmare Before Christmas, and I actually really love the ending. As much as you come to feel for Emily, she gets her closure and has a happy ending, even if she doesn’t end up a blushing bride. And with Coraline the origin of the story behind that film is actually what convinced me to watch it to begin with, and...this is yet another movie I could go on and on about for HOURS, but I will tl;dr this lol
Watch Coraline if you haven’t yet. It’s an amazing film with relatable characters and a really interesting story. Also the sets were amazing like holy SHIT. I swear to god if you just showed me a screenshot of the front of their house I’d think it was real. They did such an amazing job building the sets for the movie, props to the film makers who put all their blood sweat and tears into it.
But...yeah. Probably a longer response than you were expecting but I always try to give some substance instead of flat straight answers :>
