definitely the standers!

they aren’t many people’s first choice to ride just because they stay in place & don’t move up and down lol

usually these horses are on the outside row, making them taller in comparison to the jumping horses since they have no height to gain! they are what we see first as an outside perspective

hey!! are you familiar with return to freedom? it’s a wild horse conservatory where the actual model for spirit lives !!

i am !! recently, return to freedom hosted a birthday event for donner (the model for spirit) who was born may 9th

production for spirit stallion of the cimarron began in 1998, donner (later renamed spirit) was just three years old at the time

in april 2002, after production was complete, donner was gifted to return to freedom horse rescue sanctuary to live with wild horses

the event was called “ spirit of the horse “ and raised funds to help feed and care for the rescued horses and burros at the sanctuary

there was even a special healing ceremony for spirit (donner,) the horses, the land, and all of those in attendance led by Diné (Navajo) healers. a friendship circle and a traditional song and dance followed

after 24 years, it’s beautiful to know that spirit’s platform is still helping wild horses and letting indigenous voices be heard

hello! i’m happy to hear you have such pleasant memories, sounds like your childhood carousel served you well

historic golden age carousels didn’t dive too deep into mythical figures unless they showed relation to horses such as hippocampus carvings

among the rare few exceptions were sea dragons or sea monsters

while four-legged carousel dragons exist, sea dragons were often the only dragons carved during the early 1900s, they are very limited

i’m not sure if you’re looking for your exact dragon or if you just wanted to see some photos 🤔 one difficult thing about researching any childhood carousel is the chance that it might have become a lost carousel

Do tigers vary a lot or are they generally very similar? That tiger you posted while talking about different animals in carousels looks a lot like the one at Riverfront Park Carousel in Spokane, WA.

I always liked that the tiger was next to a dragon bench thing so if someone had mobility issues they could still be somewhere really interesting.

there’s more variety towards modern carousel tigers compared to the golden age of carousels, late 1800s to early 1900s

historically, menagerie tigers were always standing upright and on the outside row

good news is that sneaky the tiger is still neighbors with the dragon-style chariot, i hope they stick together for a long time

riverfront park carousel was created by looff carousels, they made around forty carousels between 1876 and 1916! only ten are still around today

there are only three crouching tigers to have ever been carved by looff carousels, one on the riverfront carousel while the other two are part of private collections

the fact that there’s even a crouching tiger in public today is incredibly rare, thank you for the ask!
