I drew a little morning kisses KankuNeji for @chinesefirethorn today!

My made up scenario is kankurou was drinking his morning coffee stil in his pyjamas and neji came in for kisses

“How the hell–” Kankuro paused to rub his arms, teethchattering “–do you freaking stand this weather?”

“This is actually fairly mild for the season.” Neji held upone hand to catch a falling snowflake, using his precise control over thetenketsu in his body to spread a thin layer of chakra between the warmth of hisskin and the cold frozen crystal.

When he held it out it was enough to distract Kankuro for asingle moment until a gust of wind rushed through the trees around them and hiscompanion went right back to shivering.

“Sweet kami, can this place not give it a rest for just fiveminutes? I swear I’m never gonna feel my toes again for the rest of my life.”Turning his face up, Kankuro aimed a sour glare at the snowy sky above them. Itonly lasted about ten seconds before the cold air on his face sent himsnuggling back down in to the scarf around his neck. Watching him, Neji couldn’thelp but smile.

“I suppose now is as good a time as any to stop for thenight. We’re not expected at the conference until late tomorrow so we have sometime. How about we set up the tent?”

“Yes! For the love of sand, yes. Get me out of this blastedwind!”

Since his choices were either to do as he’d offered or tolaugh in his partner’s face Neji chose to keep his mouth shut as he swung thebackpack off his shoulders and unsealed the small tent he’d brought with him.It wasn’t a very large tent, actually meant for just one person, but it wasplenty big so long as they shared the same bed roll and after several months ofdating Neji was fairly sure that even with two beds available they would haveshared the same one.

It was but the work of a few minutes to get the poles inplace and stomp in the pegs. Kankuro was crawling in almost before the wholething was secure but Neji didn’t mind so much. He’d known that would happen andhe was just happy he’d remembered to put the drop sheet down this time so hispartner wouldn’t have to crawl back out in to the cold. As soon he’d laid a fewtraps around the area to keep them safe once he and his Byakugan were asleep, Nejicrawled in to the tent as well. He zipped it up as quickly as he could butdespite that Kankuro still whined.

“Oh stop that,” he chided his partner.

“But I’m cold! Sunagakure shinobi were not meant for the snow!”

“Come here then, you big baby.”

“I’m not a baby!”

Kankuro’s words sounded tough and all until he immediatelydisproved them by diving for the blankets and all but wrapping himself in tothe other man’s arms, shamelessly leeching all the warmth he could. It was socute that Neji didn’t even bother teasing him. All he could do was hold hispartner closer and tuck the blankets in around their legs, pressing open-mouthedkisses along the line of Kankuro’s jaw.

“Winter isn’t all bad, is it?” he asked in a sultry voice.

“It sucks,” Kankuro shot back. “But the cuddles aren’t sobad.”

Neji didn’t have much to say to that. The man was right, afterall.

do you know what’s absolutely hilarious about the concept of nejikank?? i just realised that neji is the jock in the relationship.. like can u look at neji and really, honestly tell me he’s the one who makes protein shakes and deadlifts 300lb?

Kankuro took a sip of tea, swallowing louder than he meant to. He coughed lightly, drumming his hands on the wooden table. Neji sat across from him, sending daggers into his skull, his glare almost as dangerous as the Byakugan his eyes possessed.

“So, uh, you come here often?” Kankuro asked, clearing his throat.

“Why are you trying to use pickup lines on me? We’re already on a date,” Neji said, his arms crossed tightly across his chest.

“No, I uh, I meant like, do you like this place? Since you picked it I was wondering if maybe… I don’t know. Forget I said anything.”  

“Done,” Neji quipped, picking up his tea cup and sniffing it. After deciding it wasn’t poisoned, he took a small sip. He hadn’t meant to go on a date with Kankuro. He would rather people think that he didn’t even know who Kankuro was. But he had tricked him into it.

The previous night, Kankuro found himself naked in Neji’s bed, not for the first time that week. This always happened when he visited from Suna. Neji would ignore him, then insult him when Kankuro tried to get his attention. Then an hour later, Neji would be pulling him into his room at the Hyuuga compound, trying to be as quiet as he possibly could while they made out. It was then that Kankuro had gotten his way.

“Neji, go on a date with me. A real one,” he had said, pushing Neji off of his lap.

“Ew, no, I would rather die. Now shut up and keep kissing me,” he answered, pulling Kankuro up by his collar. Kankuro grabbed his wrists in return, pinning them to Neji’s side.

“Go out on ONE date with me. Just one and I’ll never ask again. I don’t like sneaking around like this. At least give me a shot.”  He stared at Neji with puppy dog eyes, only adding to the innocent look his smeared face paint gave him.

“Ugh, fine okay? Fine. But I can guarantee that I’m not going to enjoy it and I’ll make sure you won’t either. Now make out with me or I will kick you out in front of the Hyuuga elders.”

Kankuro did just that, smiling having gotten his way for the first time. And that’s how he ended up sitting across from his “platonic makeout buddy” in a tea house, almost regretting asking him out in the first place.

“So… what’s your favorite color?” Kankuro asked, wiping a hand down his tired face.

“So we’re going to do this, huh? Well, fine. If you must know, it’s purple. Like your face paint.” Neji rubbed his temple, a headache beginning to form behind his eyes.

“Ha! So you DO like me!” Kankuro yelled, jumping up from the table.

“You know what? You ruined it, Kankuro. It’s brown now. Like mud,” Neji retorted, standing up and placing his hands on the table, “Can we leave please?”

Kankuro deflated, his face growing sad. At that, Neji softened a bit, sighing.

“Sorry. I know you’re trying. Can we just go for a walk or something? This place is getting crowded.”

Kankuro looked around at the almost empty teahouse. The only ones there besides them was a very tired looking shinobi and an old woman who had moved further away from them at their outburst.

“Sure, babe, anything for you,” Kankuro said, winking as he placed some money on the table. Neji sighed, rolling his eyes far into the back of his head. Even if he didn’t have the Byakugan, he would have been able to see his brain from the exaggerated gesture.

They strolled along outside silently, Kankuro’s hands shoved into his pockets. He began to whistle gently, but was quickly silenced by Neji’s glare.

“The stars are really pretty tonight,” Kankuro said, looking up into the sky, “almost as pretty as you.”

Neji grimaced, knocking himself into Kankuro’s side. They continued to walk, heading towards one of Konoha’s night markets. They remained silent, only interrupted when a group of kunoichi walked by.

“Ooh, aren’t you the Kazekage’s brother?!” one asked Kankuro, bouncing on her toes slightly.

“Of course he is, what a stupid question! Wow, you must be really strong to be a Kage’s personal guard!” the other said, batting her eyelashes at him

“Well, I don’t know about that, Gaara isn’t exactly what I’d call defenseless,” Kankuro chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.

They continued to gush over Kankuro, Neji growing increasingly irritated as the second one continued to bat her eyes.

“You might want to get your eyes checked, it seems like you have something in them. And for your information, he farts in his sleep and also, he’s gay.” he snarled, grabbing Kankuro’s hand and lacing their fingers together. He pulled him away from the drooling girls, Kankuro stumbling as he did so.

“Uh, I’m not gay,” he muttered, blushing as he stared at their hands.

“Yeah, and I’m not wildly out of your league,” Neji scoffed.

“I’m glad you finally admit that,” Kankuro said, catching up with Neji’s quickened pace as he grinned. He grabbed Neji’s other hand as he stopped and rolled his eyes.

“You know I hate it when you do that. It makes it harder to see your gorgeous eyes.”

“I’m going to throw up.”

Kankuro laughed and leaned in to kiss Neji’s nose, making a loud smacking sound. He tried to glare at Kankuro again, but failed breaking into a smirk.

“Let’s go, pain in the ass.”  Kankuro tugged gently on Neji’s hand and slapped his butt,  expecting him to let go as soon as they started walking. To his surprised, Neji kept a tight grip on him, gently resting his head on his arm as they walked. Kankuro smiled down at him, glad that he had convinced him to go out with him, even if it had taken forever.

“Don’t call me babe ever again.” Neji said, breaking the tenderness of the situation.

“You got it, sugar lips,” Kankuro said, barking out a laugh. He kept a firm grip on Neji, worried that he would try and let go. But to his delight, all Neji did was sigh and shake his head. If Kankuro had been able to see his face, he would have seen that Neji was smiling.

i wanna know your thoughts on the kankuro rarepairs you don't really write for or even talk about much, so any prompt(s) of choice for kankusai, kanklee, and/or nejikank?

Nejikank:

I never write Neji because, I don't know, I dont have him figure out and I haven't found the angle through which he would interest me. (I'm not saying he isn't interesting! But we haven't clicked yet.)

I do really like Kankurou and Tenten as a friendship, so I'm thinking maybe when Kankurou is in Konoha they spar every so often? Neji lives AU. Kankurou doesn't know Neji much, just to the extend that he's part of the Konoha 13 so they are vaguely appointed. But maybe he sees him around at times and I mean, he's a little pretty. He could ask Tenten if he's free. She might be excited about the gossip potential of seeing all of this unfold so she encourages it.

Or maybe Neji's having a rough time because of som clan shit or idk and Kankurou asks Tenten "Is you're teammate okay? He's been looking stressed out lately." and she explains a bit and Kankurou goes for a chat and offer a spar to Neji to distract him for a bit. After all Kankurou's not foreign to councils and heirs bullshit haha.

I had never thought about them and it's a bit hard to imagine I think because I ship GaaLee too much haha. (But then again I do ship KankuShika extensively, so that shouldn't stop me.)

I imagine Lee being over in Suna and sparring with Kankurou, and he's very enthusiastic about it because he is who he is, giving advices and praising Kankurou for good moves while they spar. And it's pissing Kankurou off that Lee is so much better than him that he has the time to do that while fighting 😂 Lee would be like "That was a great parade Kankurou-san!" while counterattacking with no struggle and Kankurou feels a little taken pity on. Lee is genuine, of course, but well, it's not rubbing Kankurou's ego the right way. He needs to come back to Lee for something he can win this time and flatter his self esteem with a bit. Maybe that thing is flirting, who knows?

KankuSai:

I have an AU I have never written for yet that among others includes KankuSai. It's mostly a BDSM smut AU with Kankurou as a Dom. Sai's non-binary and not super experienced. They're the one of Kankurou's partners that he is the most gentle with. It's mostly a work of proving them that they are very much desirable and that there is no need to overpass their boundaries and do things that they're not comfortable with or that make them dysphoric to find ways to 1 feel good themselves 2 make a partner feel good.

For a more canonverse thing, I can actually also see it with Sai being the most proactive one in them getting together! Trying to hit on on Kankurou and his technique is probably... You know. Sai. At times too blunt, at times convoluted in an obscure way because he's read that in a book. And at first Kankurou is wondering if he's just making fun of him and is pretty confused by the whole thing, but eventually he decides to give it a try. After all he does have that much to loose. At worse it'll be weird between them but it's already weird, so. And it goes well! Sai is actually a bit funny and nice an interest, even if his communication is not always easy to understand. So they do it again and eventually I suppose become a thing.
