I have it in my WIP folder because i've talked about it so much to my boyfriend for the past *check notes* two years and a half at least apparently, that i decided to copy-paste my infodump into a Word document for easier access, but I have not technically started writing it 😆

It's set in my canon compliant/worldbuilding series. We don't have much in canon but it follows that: Gaara being called one night because Shinki is found causing some havoc and bringing him to the Kazekage Tower for the time being.

It includes :

A bunch of politics with Gaara and Kankurou trying to figure out where does Shinki come from and what happened to him, the answer to which includes some political scheming.

Some reflections about family, parenthood and parenting and Gaara and Kankurou's relationship with it, given that Gaara eventual opts for adopting Shinki, and that before that there are also both still in the "the Kazekage Clan need an heir" situation. I also think I want it to be the fic where they argue about their divergent feelings about Rasa ("He did his best with what he had" "The fuck no he didn't, he tried to kill you, several times." "Wouldn't you do it if I became a threat to the village? Isn't that your commitment to Suna?"), probably at the start, and then while they're upset with each other about it Shinki appears and they have to sort themselves out for it.

And also a lot of thing around Kankurou's relationship to children and his own childhood/youth, how seeing Shinki being cared for brings back to him the fact that it would have been possible to treat him differently when he was younger (see aforementioned arguement), how scared he is of becoming like his father and other abusive adults in his life when a vulnerable child is put into his hand, some more processing of all that, some appologies and formaive discussion with someone who has known him and seen him growin up, and the teaching that he will have to find a way because Shinki needs him, Gaara cannot do it alone, and there are things he's the only one to be able to provide for him (cue to the mandatory "Kankurou helping Shinki with his facepaint" scene).

I think I have most of the themes and important check point of the fic, but I need to seriously sit down to finish figuring out the politics (i will probably come and brainstorm that in the sand sib server), and also to have the time and will to start and finish a long fic, so I'm hoping this one is my 2025 project!

I also haven't really thoought out Baki in this, that's still uncertain. And for at least the first half Temari isn't around because until the point where the politics are a little figured out, the idea is the least people know about Shinki, the safest, but I also find it a bit disappointing that she wouldn't be here so. We'll see.

favorite thing about them: ... Gai? More seriously, I like their plotline of self destruction and martyrdom and being forced to overcome that, but I don't think I like it so much each individually as I like them together.

least favorite thing about them: Don't touch children's butt even in a fight, Kakashi.

favorite line: chose between "I need to protect him." in Shippuden 288 or "He's nice, isn't he?" in Konoha Shinden (he's a simp)

brOTP: Idk if that really answers the question, but I like his relationship with Team 7 when they are more grown up and he is less their teacher and superior, and more like an older friend to them. I'm soft about teens becoming adults, and I like their dynamic!

OTP: KakaGai ofc, we all know the truth

nOTP: outside of the obvious Kakashi/any Team 7? not much tbh. But there's also not really any ship I'm enthusiastic for outside of KakaGai

random headcanon: I'm not sure the man can read. He left school at 5. I think 10yo Kakashi thought if he held a book in public at all times no one would realise he's barely litterate, and by the time he realised what the content of the book was, he already had a reputation made and so he's been "the guy who reads porn in public" for the past two decades because there was no coming back. His writting is that of a 6yo kid and someone has to write all the official paper for him once he's Hokage.

unpopular opinion: He works paired with Iruka but only if you acknowledge his inherent patheticness. KakaIru sucks as long as it's "cool and strong and mysterious military man and his soft and nice teacher boyfriend". But I can get behind "overworked and tired middle school teacher has no patience left for whiny boyfriend who has forgotten how to interract decently with other human beings".

song i associate with them: I'm not very good at songs but I'm thinking maybe Veux-tu danser ? by Gris. For the lyrics much more than the song itself. "You cannot touch me because I carry the worst of infections. I spread it to the ones I love at the whim of impulsions. I never wanted to propagate this heineous bacteria. Plese forgive, I should have staid stuck in your lives. Why do I have to bear this terrible curse? And most importantly, why did you have to love me back?"

The details in the eyelid and lashes? The concept of him only crying from Obito's eyes and never his own? Excellent.

Now Torune!

favorite thing about them: His sacrifice for Shino is obviously touching, but it's also pretty fucked up and sad too. It makes mewonder about his father and their relationship. Presumably Shikuro died when he was little, if he was raised alongside Shino by Shibi? I wonder how much Torune got to know him, if he's grown up at least for a while with someone who had the same type of hive as him, what their place was inside the clan and how he's been raised to come to think of himself that way.

least favorite thing about them: Too little screentime 😔 and also tbh not the greatest fashion sense of all Aburame, but he gets a pass for being naked half of the time

favorite line: He doesn't have much lines in the manga, and while he may have some nice ones in the anime episode with the flashback of his childhood with Shino, I don't have access to it and I don't know it very well.

brOTP: Shino seems like an obvious choice! We need a "Danzou doesn't exist and all is well" AU

OTP: It's gotta be Fuu. I can happily see them as friends to but if he had to be with someone it'd be him.

nOTP: I think the truth is, I never really have any big nOTP

random headcanon: I assume Torune isn't his birth name. Loosing your name when entering the Root is shown as a big thing for Sai and Yamato. I like to make myself sad thinking about Shino only knowing his birth name, and not recognising it when people who have seen him, for example at the Gokage Summit, mention him by his Root name. Maybe Shino calling him his birthname when they meet during the war and Torune hearing it for the first time in over a decade.

unpopular opinion: I don't think there's enough fandom opinion about him for any to be unpopular haha

song i associate with them: I'm not sure it makes any sense but I thought of Isara by Eluveitie

favorite picture of them: Him carrying Fuu in piggy back just makes me soft. More generally they seem to have a love of trust and affection for each other. I like it.

I wrote a chapter two years and a half ago and haven't touched it since then, but I fully intend on getting there eventually. I want to say it's my 2025 project but I already said that about the Shinki adoption fic lmao.

It's for my canon compliant/worldbuilding series. It's set during the year after the 3th War and follows Shikaku and Yoshino as they reunite, get together, and at least settle that they're going to have a child together. I'm not holly sure yet when it ends, if it's then or if maybe it continues until Shikamaru's birth? Unclear for now. But it's mostly a getting together fic.

Some facts:

ANBU Yoshino at the start

Chronically Ill Yoshino (hence why forecfully retired Yoshino for most of the fic, and she hates it thouroughly)

Yoshino having strong feelings about misogyny and ging to great length to substract herself from her abusice upbringing and the general expectation of society placed on her because she's a woman

Probably Shikaku shutting up so misogynistic jerk (his dad) too

Past Shikaku/Inoichi that Shikaku is majorly not over with while Inoichi is getting married to Ino's mother

Chouza being the unwilling witness and but friendly support of trainwreck Shikaku

Yoshino bonding with Shikaku's lesbian aunt over shitty dads

Yoshino and Shikaku do beat each other up a little but it goes them some good

(Or die.) As if on cue, the frail silhouette in the locker room on the other side of the corridor raises its porcelain mask towards them. It looks ridiculously oversized, even cut down to try and fit the tiny head behind it. Out of duty and in a building field with grown men chiselled for murder, he looks miserably young and small – which he is, more so even than when she joined the faction herself – yet he doesn’t look intimidated in the slightest, just curious sometimes, and, from what she’s heard, he’s been living up to his Cold-Blooded nickname for the few months he’s been here. He’ll go far. Or he’ll crash soon, she’s not certain yet. “Got a problem Fox?”

This one is my nemesis fic. It's almost entirely posted (here) and I have only one scene left to write!! (This month, hopefully.)

I started it in fall 2021 as the third increment to my first modern AU. It's a KankuKiba fic about psychotic + chronically ill Kankurou joining the Team 8 polycule and learning to build community with other disabled people. With lots of Sand Sibling bonding (it's the same AU as the GaaLee fic, it's set shortly after) and a tiny bit of SasoKisa in the background.

Don't get me wrong, I like it by many aspects. But it's also the last fic I started before realising I was much more comfortable writing my multi-chapter fics entirely before starting posting them. It makes me feel less stress and pressured, it lets me take more time and take breaks when I need to air my brains out and come back to my work with fresh and rested eyes. It's been very beneficial to my writing and I feel like I have made a lot of progress in various matters since then.

And so... I like this fic, but it's also made in a way that I don't make my fics anymore, and it's hard to reconnect with it in the way that I would want to. But I like this AU, I have other fics I want to do in it, and I like this fic and I want to finish it! I've decided to make it an exercise of "the important thing is to write, and it's okay if the end product is not perfect, what matters is that you did it" and it's an important skill too.

I don't know if I sell this fic very well but, that's how writing is sometimes 😆

i wanna know your thoughts on the kankuro rarepairs you don't really write for or even talk about much, so any prompt(s) of choice for kankusai, kanklee, and/or nejikank?

Nejikank:

I never write Neji because, I don't know, I dont have him figure out and I haven't found the angle through which he would interest me. (I'm not saying he isn't interesting! But we haven't clicked yet.)

I do really like Kankurou and Tenten as a friendship, so I'm thinking maybe when Kankurou is in Konoha they spar every so often? Neji lives AU. Kankurou doesn't know Neji much, just to the extend that he's part of the Konoha 13 so they are vaguely appointed. But maybe he sees him around at times and I mean, he's a little pretty. He could ask Tenten if he's free. She might be excited about the gossip potential of seeing all of this unfold so she encourages it.

Or maybe Neji's having a rough time because of som clan shit or idk and Kankurou asks Tenten "Is you're teammate okay? He's been looking stressed out lately." and she explains a bit and Kankurou goes for a chat and offer a spar to Neji to distract him for a bit. After all Kankurou's not foreign to councils and heirs bullshit haha.

KankuLee:

I had never thought about them and it's a bit hard to imagine I think because I ship GaaLee too much haha. (But then again I do ship KankuShika extensively, so that shouldn't stop me.)

I imagine Lee being over in Suna and sparring with Kankurou, and he's very enthusiastic about it because he is who he is, giving advices and praising Kankurou for good moves while they spar. And it's pissing Kankurou off that Lee is so much better than him that he has the time to do that while fighting 😂 Lee would be like "That was a great parade Kankurou-san!" while counterattacking with no struggle and Kankurou feels a little taken pity on. Lee is genuine, of course, but well, it's not rubbing Kankurou's ego the right way. He needs to come back to Lee for something he can win this time and flatter his self esteem with a bit. Maybe that thing is flirting, who knows?

KankuSai:

I have an AU I have never written for yet that among others includes KankuSai. It's mostly a BDSM smut AU with Kankurou as a Dom. Sai's non-binary and not super experienced. They're the one of Kankurou's partners that he is the most gentle with. It's mostly a work of proving them that they are very much desirable and that there is no need to overpass their boundaries and do things that they're not comfortable with or that make them dysphoric to find ways to 1 feel good themselves 2 make a partner feel good.

For a more canonverse thing, I can actually also see it with Sai being the most proactive one in them getting together! Trying to hit on on Kankurou and his technique is probably... You know. Sai. At times too blunt, at times convoluted in an obscure way because he's read that in a book. And at first Kankurou is wondering if he's just making fun of him and is pretty confused by the whole thing, but eventually he decides to give it a try. After all he does have that much to loose. At worse it'll be weird between them but it's already weird, so. And it goes well! Sai is actually a bit funny and nice an interest, even if his communication is not always easy to understand. So they do it again and eventually I suppose become a thing.

For the Character Ask Game

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I like that he's canonically shown to be soft and kind. He is pretty unique in that way and I think the canon does a decent job of exploring that? It acknowledge that it's not always a good thing and it hinders him sometimes, given the life that he's meant to live (like in the fight against Edo Tensei Asuma) but still never says that it's a flaw or a bad thing for him to be either. Just that he needs to overpassed it sometimes, but his friends still appreciate that about him.

I like the flashback with Chouza in that chapter too, and how it's hinted that Chouza doesn't have the same personality as his son. I like to imagine that Chouza as well never judges Chouji for this trait, but also probably worries about him and knows that he will have to find a way to toughen up if he wants to make it, both in physical fight situations, but also politically if he's going to be the head of the clan. He needs to be able to be firm and to make hard decisions.

I think in the context of the Naruto world, it's an interesting personallity for a strong and politically important character to have and to keep despite it all.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Can I run away from having to say bad things about Chouji by saying the worst thing about Chouji is Asuma? 😆

I'm not super fond of the "he gets upset when people call him fat" trope, I guess. I sort of get why he could feel like this, but also at the same time, this is his whole clan heritage, this is what makes him strong, this is the core of his techniques. Then again, it may take him time to reclaim that and find it empowering. I'm on the fence about it (but also because I don't think Kishimoto was thinking that much about chara development when writing it, and just thought that fatphobic jokes were funny).

However, I love that in chapter 700 Chouchou is shown super unappologetic about her wieght, which makes me think maybe Chouji has made sure to teach her that and made sure she would embrace her body and heritage more freely than he did at her age, and that's very nice!

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

The two worst part of writing Chouji are 1 He's too pretty I get distracted by the descriptions and I forget what I'm doing 2 For All Bones and a Beating Heart, I knew Shikamaru's chara development required to be able to formulate criticism about Chouji instead of idealising him too much, but I was on the same boat as him and I was very biased and it was very hard 😆

The fav part... I've been thinking about it for a while and I'm not sure, but I can say at least that one thing I've really been enjoying with his dynamic with Shikamaru in that fic is that I got to have a few very heavy scenes where they managed to pull through and be light with each other at the end. Like despite saying hard things they still eventually find the way to pick each other up if only a little. In canon they seem to be able to relax most when they are together and I like to imagine that they can create a bit of space to breathe together when they try, even in hard times.

Hello I am home sick from work and thinking so much about Kankurou and Kiba from "If You Could Leave a Light on Please" and I just wanted to tell you I love them. Assuming that the NSFW fics are in verse canon, do you think you will ever right about how Kankurou became comfortable with sex and how Kiba handled his needs before Kankurou was into it and ready for it?

The nsfw fic are canon to the universe, and I do want to write about it, yeah!

I think it has to be a fairly progressive thing. I think Kankurou does try just being around for company and cuddles while Kiba jerks off for a bit and that it's not easy/comfortable 100% of the time but it ends up working pretty well over all. And then over time maybe becomes a bit more involved with doing some talking and praising, maybe some manual help, that's probably also when he learns some rope bondage and other BDSM stuff that doesn't involve him sexually.

Until he does get to a point where the idea of being touched himself feels possible and not negative. And when it gets there eventually, I think the dynamic is still very much "Kiba wants it and I feel like having that kind of shared intimacy rn" than Kankurou taking he initiative out of his own desire the overwhelming majority of the time.

I think overall Kankurou is not sex averse once he's comfortable with Kiba (and more comfortable with his own body, more time post surgery etc.) and he can enjoy partaking directly, but he doesn't have much sex drive and it's more of an intimacy and service thing for him than a sex thing. It can get him off and feel good physically but he doesn't really have a natural pull to seek that. If Kiba woke up with no sex drive one day he wouldn't be frustrated to never fuck again. Cuddles works perfectly fine too.

I don't think he ever warms up to the concept of making out, however. He doesn't need people inside his face. Get out. And he wouldn't warm up to bottoming or giving oral sex either I think but Kiba isn't interested in getting that from him anyway so it works out pretty well in that aspect.

I don't know if/when I'll write any of that cause this year had been Hard and I'm very rusty and struggling writing wise for now, but hopefully eventually!
