I think this trilogy represents some of the best comtemporary styles of camera, space and abstraction in anime and depictions of the vampire lore.
Kizumonogatari Part 2: Nekketsu (2016) | dir. Akiyuki Simbo, Tatsuya Oishi
I can't watch any shonen and wonder how it's humanely possible to survive, especially when characters take hit in the head
The video accompanying this project (turn the english subtitles ON ^^)
If you were a kid in the mid-90s-2000s, you’ve surely experienced the Pokemon card game's madness. And in this case, your life may have known 3 paths : either you passed your way without thinking about it any more until arriving on my work; or you understood nothing about the rules and you just kept exchanging cards with the rest of your class; either you fell into the world of cards and became a pro of Uno, Magic, Bakugan or our month's subject : "Yu-Gi-Oh!" And I will rewrite them after the famous Nekketsu Triad : the hero, the rival and the antagonist.
My plot's rewrite would be based on the manga's debuts, when the card game wasn't as proeminent as it became in real life. Hidden in this world there are Reflections, entities that can be summonned by performing specific tasks (such as reconstructing a puzzle, having an antique prosthesis implanted, etc.). Each Reflection have its own personality and powers that it can use once bonded with a human being. Yugi Moutou, a shy teenager, reconstruct the Millenium Puzzle found by his grandfather. He then fuses with Yami, a humanoid and amnesiac Reflection convinced that his memories are somewhere in Yugi's world, and asks for help from the latter to find them. Along with their other friends, those 2 will live adventures and face people and/or Reflections not all well intentioned. But thanks to the soul of friendship and the power of games (or vice versa, I don't remember), they will face together the difficulties of the world and will come out of this epic.
Yugi MutoOccupation : highschool student Reflection : Yami Special skills : quick understanding and mastering of all kinds of games Likes : playing all kinds of games, having fun with friends, chatting with Yami Hates : his loved ones being hurt, arguing with Yami, cheaters, bullies
YamiOccupation : Reflection Original : Yugi Muto Powers : quick understanding and mastering of all kinds of games, mastery of the Shadow and Penalty Games Likes : playing all kinds of games, winning, chatting with Yugi Hates : losing, Yugi and his loved onces being hurt, bad players, arguing with Yugi
Since I already like their dynamic in the original story, I wouldn't rewrite too much their character if I had to. Yami is a master of the Shadow Game, which allows him to create dimensional bubbles in which he can punish jerks through deadly games. Well not too much deadly either, he still remains the hero's Reflection. And like in the original story; Yugi would be a shy teen who, while still caring for Yami and wanting to help him, would need to get self-confidence and stop relying too much on his alter ego. Alongside Yami, whose arrogance would get his alter ego in grave danger until he learns to take Yugi and their friends more in consideration.
Seto Kaiba Occupation : highschool student, CEO of Kaiba Corp Reflection : Blue-Eyes White Dragon Special skills : understanding and mastering Duel Monsters, engineering, manipulation, hacking Likes : winning, being right, his brother, Kaiba Corp prospering Hates : losing, his brother being hurt, Kaiba Corp being sabotaged
Blue-Eyes White Dragon Occupation : Reflection Original : Seto Kaiba Powers : flight, sharp senses, energy blast Likes : Seto & Mokuba Kaiba, sleeping, eating Hates : disrespecting Seto or Mokuba, stealing its food
If I could rewrite the character, I'd like to make a Seto Kaiba as a very often traveler searching new sources of profit -direct or indirect- for the Kaiba Corp. His briefcase can contain various documents more or less compromising to his enemies and all the data necessary for the situation are stored in his phone (among others machines). I would like him to be less sociopathic than in the series while maintaining his often misplaced pride. However, he would have respect for the opponent who managed to defeat him at least once. And of course, he would also remain protective of his younger brother Mokuba. He would also have a Reflection in the form of his favorite monster, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, which he can invoke by the card around his neck. But his cartesianism and pragmatism would prevent him from developing the creature’s potential to its fullest. It remains to be seen whether he will eventually open his mind to the Reflection's true powers.
Pegasus J. CrawfordOccupation : CEO of Industrial Illusions, philanthropist, creator of Duel Monsters Reflection : unknown, tries to bring Cecilia back as such Special skills : negociation, creation of Duel Monsters cards, mastering the Millennium Eye's powers (telepathy, soul stealing, seeing opponent's cards, initiate Shadow Games) Likes : Cecilia, painting, winning, reading Hates : disrespecting Cecilia's memory, losing
If I could rewrite the character, Pegasus would actually search for the Millennium Items to resurrect Cecilia as his Reflection. For this, in addition to his card game empire, he also pretends to be a philantropist devoted to mankind's well-being. Thus, he ensures a perfect public image while collecting informations about the Items and committing the necessary excactions to bring back his Cecilia. He has a sense of honour because he always keeps his commitments, even if he cannot turn it to his advantage. But fed by his despair and his growing madness, he will go all the way to Hell for Cecilia, and drag the rest of the world with him if necessary.
