Muskrats are the primary prey of adult mink, but they will also eat crayfish, frogs, birds, or whatever they can catch. The sea mink (Neovison macrodon) was a larger relative of the American mink (N. vison). Found only along the coast of New England and the Canadian Maritime Provinces, it was highly adapted to aquatic life -- displaying convergent evolution with the more distantly-related marine otter.
Sadly, intense human fur hunting during the 19th century resulted in this species being driven to complete extinction by the year 1870.
