My kids love loot crate. But, I’m broke. So I decided to challenge myself to make them a box every month that comes in the mail for them. I’ll just keep it in the car and bring it in with the mail.
Anyway, here is my brain dump (long!):
I want to keep this at around $10/month for TWO boys. Lootcrate was $19.95/month for one box and sometimes I didn’t even like the stuff. The good thing is that I have a bunch of stuff already, as you’ll see in the next section.
I’m thinking about have 1-2 blind bags/boxes (My kids love those unboxings on Youtube.). 1 craft or lego/Duplo project and some fun stuff from the dollar store.
Blind bags, I can get for about $3.00 each, even less if I have coupons or catch them on clearance.
I read and am inspired my Pinterest, so I have all of the required PreK crafting supplies: popsicle sticks, glitter, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, etc. I figured a project using that or some stuff that he can make and eat would be great.
Also, I just got them a Qixels set, K’nex and a big box of legos. Finding a quick project and “borrowing’ their stash shouldn’t be too hard.
Lastly, they are still at the age where dumb stuff the dollar stores impresses them. Let’s take advantage of that while we can.
There’s a pic of Qixels ninja. Because walls of text sucks.
Now, I am the least creative person I know. I enjoy DIYs and crafting and such, but I don’t think I’ve had an original thought for a long, long time. Tutorials and recipes are my life. Luckily, Dollar Tree (I <3 that place) always has the season’s decorations in stock. Also, Player1, my oldest son’s school sends home their curriculum for that month, which usually has a giant theme. Score!
I have tons of wrapping paper, stamps, stickers, etc. So I’m thinking that I can just get a nice study box, then decorated differently every month. I dunno. We may play this one by ear.
I think this will be really fun. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading! I’m looking forward to posting an update :)
